Britcon and Worlds 2012 Date Announced

Incorporating The Worlds

The BHGS are delighted to announce the dates for this year's Britcon have now been confirmed as Friday 10th – Sunday 12th August 2012. The venue will be the traditional location of the University of Manchester, England.

Since the last Britcon the committee have been working hard to ensure the dates do not conflict with other events happening during the month of August from both a National and International perspective.

The delay in announcing the dates has been due to a major renegotiation of the contract with UMIST, investigations of new venues and discussions with International bodies. A calculated risk was taken in sharing the date with Wargames Illustrated before the final contract was in place with the University.

More information regarding the construct of the event, ticket prices and accommodation options will become clear in the very near future.

The BHGS would like to thank everyone for their patience and apologise to those who have been inconvenienced by the delay.

Isn't that during the Olympics ?

Also, for us overseas types, can someone tell us how much it is likely to cost to get into Britcon, don't they include the cost of staying at the Uni in the price ?

Cheers

Accommodation is in with the price, and you must take accn to enter. From just over £100 to about £300 depending on standard of accn and no. of nights.

Is there much to see in Manchester that warrants arriving on the Thursday and paying an extra night's accommodation (other than shaking off jet lag a day before gaming starts), or should I just plan to arrive mid afternoon Friday?

Some pretty good art galleries in Manchester if that rings your bell, plus (unless the new boys have changed it) you can get into Britcon on the Thursday afternoon and get some more games in.

Some good museums as well. Night life is good - loads of pubs and resraurants.

Drop me a mail and let me know what you like!

Does that mean the "Worlds" will be the same format as past Britcons, 3 games on Saturday?

Will it cost to enter the World Championships on top of the Britcon fee ?

Currently looking at $ 2000 before I even roll a die in anger...

The main competition will be between Fri and Sun. For international travellers we will be working on "a touring itinerary". There are some local sites of interest to wargamers from historical battle sites to local breweries! More details to follow over the coming weeks and months.

It's in the diary - thanks Phil!

But what to do - A&M or R?

Will they each be one big period if it's the Worlds?

Any official word on this?

Do any of the accommodation options have air conditioning?

This is Manchester. They may have a window, but that may have been boarded up. If it hasn't you might want to.

See the Northern Doubles League links in the UK 2012 calendar for what its like.

But to be honest I don't know. I am only a messenger passing on what the BHGS has said so far.
