Gents, the situation:
2 tertios with a gap 2 bases wide between them. In this gap slightly back from the front are a unit of mounted arquebusiers. The enemy cavalry decide a frontal attack on the tertios is a little silly but declare a charge down the gap at the mounted. Bearing in mind the sides of the mounted are touching the tertios either side so when the enemy charge down the gap they would be touching the tertios to either side. Is this possible?

I don't see any reason why the cavalry can't do this as long as the already mentioned conditions are met.
Assuming the Mtd Arq have evaded, the cav will then be left between the tercios. If they are in contact with either and assuming the tercio isn't otherwise engaged in melee, it will ge the rare opportunity of exercising the rule whereby a bg in flank to flank contact with an enemy bg can turn in the maneouvre phase and engage in melee. Can't remember the page in the book, it's either 'moving into contact' or 'feeding more bases into a melee.'
If they're not in contact, the cav will be shot to shreds.
A world of pain for the cav...

I presume the "reason" to do this is something else strikes the Tercios and the mounted is something serious that hopes to blow through the mounted arqubusiers quickly and then trigger CT checks on the Tercios hoping they falter. Then the mounted cuts through to the rear and engages in more fun.
In other words a brilliant act of desparation that with the right dice will reverse a total disaster.
