Another Newbie Question

Post by thamesdown »

Hi
Bought this game for Xmas because it had an Editor and I liked the look of the graphics.

I want to play the German side so after looking through the forums I did the following...
1)Changed the Sides file to read Axis at the top.
2)Located the correct Unitcon file and pasted this too into the MyCampaign folder.

Now for the Editor (please note I'm not touching any BSF file because that looks way too complicated for my non-modders mind).

1) I set up a simple Axis Defence with 2 German Infantry defending 1 Flag & 3 British Infantry with AGG48 with the Flag as their destination. 10 Turns. Battle Won by the Germans on GT1.
2) I then set up a simple Axis Attack with 3 German Infantry attacking 2 British Infantry defending 1 Flag with AGG64. 10 Turns. Battle Lost by Germans on GT1.

What have I failed to do, please?

One final question (out of the hundreds I can think of)... Are there Deployment Zones in this Game?

Welcome to the forums!

When using the plugins to build defensive missions, you need to set the victory conditions to require the capture of 1 more flag than is on the map (e.g. they only lose if they have less than defend flags). I think that might be what is going wrong :).

When using a deployment map, you can deploy your forces into any tile you can see - so you can basically only deploy close to the initial unit placements (unless you use scripting to open up other areas of the map too).

Hope that helps!

Cheers

thamesdown,

Look over at this thread ... The discussion was about setting up a Defend Scenario using the victory points plugin.

Hope that helps

Wow. Your advice was bang on. I had a tiny battle in a landscape of green (no terrain). My first ever - I had not even tried any of the proper scenarios. So contrary to some of the forum comments you CAN play as Germans AND you can defend too. Brilliant.

As a wargamer who depends on software editors to wage war, your timely advice has now opened up yet another world for me. I've already bought the France add-on and look forward to the others.

Whilst I've got your attention, one more question...
In the Victory Points box, to the left of the Game Turn panel is another little one which shows a "+" when you click on it. What does the "+" mean?

Thank you and Thank you again.

The "+" means ... The side with the most VPS when time runs out wins.
Click the box with the "+" and it disables that condition.

When you hover the mouse over that box, it should popup with a tooltip (give it a second or two for dwell time).

Thanks for the answer. I spotted the tool tip but it seemed to come up over both boxes.

Thanks again.

Yes ... Tool tip's can be long winded (text overlapping several items), but remember, it only applies to where the cursor is located.

Overall, it takes time to sort out the editor. Building a scenario has to be done in baby steps (like you did, on a blank map).
Believe me, I climbed that same learning curve you are experiencing.
