Access to GS beta-testing postings
I was wondering if it would be possible for the GS beta-testing postings to be unlocked after GS 2.1 is made available? It would be great to be able to see how you guys came to the decisions that you did. Another possibility would be to allow read-only access to those not in the beta-testing group. Thanks!

They'll tell us how they came to their decisions anyway. Allowing read only access wouldn't work because we who aren't in the beta group could just send them private messages about the progress then anyway and that would be a waste of time in comparison to letting the people in the know to get on with it.
In spite of the Final Fantasy character it's pronounced sao-win after the Irish pagan god of death. I'm not a pagan but we're on a wargames website so I thought it fitting.

Well - The easiest way is to ask Ronnie (rkr1958) if you can join the Beta Group - Then you can see all the chatter!TotalerKrieg wrote:I was wondering if it would be possible for the GS beta-testing postings to be unlocked after GS 2.1 is made available? The beta forum area will not be made available to the public in case we will fix things post GS v2.1. So if you're interested in beta work then you can join the beta group. It's not very hard to become a member. If you have some kind of knowledge of the game then every input is valuable.
It's even valuable to have newbies as beta testers because they do things in the game that an experienced player would never do. Therefore they find bugs we won't. At the moment GS v2.10 is pretty much bug free (as far as we now). So now we just make minor tweaks to findings in beta games. One example is the Sicilian blob where Italy places garrisons in every Sicilian hex to make it harder for the Allies to force a surrender. This is so because both Sicilan cities count as surrender cities.
We're working on a different system now to make the Italians pay a bit for losing Libya and Tunisia, thus making it easier to take Sicily if the Axis abandon north Africa.
Another issue we have is that Russia seems to run out of oil fast if they lose Baku. We need to check if there were big oil resources in Russia east of the Urals so we can up the Russian offmap oil production. A side effect of Russia losing oil is that the convoys get stranded because they burn oil to move.

@KingHunter and Stauffenberg
I am interested in the beta work but I am not sure how valuable I would be to you guys. I have played the vanilla game, the BJR mod, GS 1.4 and GS 1.7. For various reasons I haven't had time to play for awhile and haven't played GS 2.0 yet. Just looking at the AAR forum and other posts it is clear that I am seriously out of date!
So in the time it would take me to catch up, you and the beta group would probably wrap up your tweaking of GS 2.1.
If you guys continue your GS development after release of GS 2.1 and I think I can contribute, I'll try to persuade rkr1958 to let me come aboard. So I guess I should PM him at that time and send him a case of beer or something?

My hope was that if they are restricting access only to prevent people outside the beta-testing group from cluttering up the threads that it would be ok for outsiders to have limited access. I don't think PMing was a concern as you could PM them regarding progress updates whether you have access or not to the beta-testing forum.They'll tell us how they came to their decisions anyway. Allowing read only access wouldn't work because we who aren't in the beta group could just send them private messages about the progress then anyway and that would be a waste of time in comparison to letting the people in the know to get on with it.
