Display suggestion: killed unit is not shown to fire back

Post by bebro »

Well, this always bugs me in a way, but I'm not sure if others even care or if changes are easy to implement:

You know, when a unit gets fully wiped out in an enemy attack, you still get to see the anim of it firing back (after the attack that destroyed it).

IMO it would be kinda nice if that wouldn't happen. Note that this goes only for the display, not the actual combat results, so the attacker would of course still take the same casualties as he would now. Also, if a unit is destroyed when attacking itself its attack anim should of course be shown.

Maybe if that is easy to implement and doesn't take away too much from other important work it could be changed so that in such cases only the attacking anim gets shown? What do other players think? Useful or not?

The initiative decides (or actually the difference between the attacker and defender) if a unit fires back.
So unless the enemy is surpressed and/or his initiative (the Effective Initiative as displayed in the Combat Results) is 5 lower than the attacker the defender will always attack/fire back.

I`ve thought about this thing too. It`s somewhat disruptive to see a unit that has just been annihilated fire back and inflicting - potentially heavy - casualties on you. On the other hand, imo, it would be similarly eerie for the casualties to just quietly appear after you`ve annihilated a unit without it firing once. I`m not sure that apart from the units shooting simultaneously there could be any completely acceptable solution to this.

I think it might be pretty cool to see both units fire simultaneously in such a situation. :)
