Capturing/Recapturing guns with Cavalry

Post by nickdives »

Gents,

had a situation tonight where the Jocks had 3 frame guns on a flank. Behind them were some cavalry but not in base contact, and anyway unable to support the guns. Light Cav hit the guns and "captured" them The next move the Jock Cav moved into base contact with the uncontrolled guns with the lt Cav remaining in frontal contact of the guns. As far as we could see they recapture the guns but cannot use them and the guns remain uncontrolled. A bit of a stalemate, we gave up trying to find the solution and removed the guns, what is the solution?

Yes, you recaptured the guns, and yes they remain uncontrolled until the relevant type of foot contact them.

Here's the important bit - you get the AP back. So even though you can't use them (because they're uncontrolled) they are not lost and won't break your army...

Cheers Dave,

what foxed us was that if the other Cav remain in base contact then next go are the recaptured guns captured again?

Nope, they're only captured/recaptured by a BG moving into contact. Not one remaining in contact.

Page 127 is quite emphatic about this, and that the contact is one that would normally result in close combat, so a charge or pursuit.
