Artillery Question in front rank

Post by clogs4444 »

Hi to everyone, Happy New Year :D
Artillery support question:-
If the Light Artillery is attached to the front of a BG (pike 2 bases and musket 4 bases), when the opponent fires at the artillery he should also include firing at the BG as well. Is that correct?
Equally when I am firing at the opponent with my muskets it should be measured from the front line of the artillery base. Am I correct with this rule?
The rules pictorially shows a BG sitting behind an artillery base and when the BG moves through the artillery the BG includes the depth of the artillery.
If this is the case should not the BG musket bases be placed either side of the artillery base and the pike bases should sit behind the artillery base?
Look forward to peoples comments.

When a foot BG is supporting artillery it is regarded as being in the same place as the front of the artillery, although the actual supporting bases are placed directly to its rear. If you have a 2 base wide Artillery BG and a 3 base wide foot BG it is common to place the extra base (one of the shot bases) in line with the front of the artillery to make this clearer. In this case the extra base can shoot, as can the artillery. The foot base providing support cannot.

Enemy shooting at this formation (where 2 BGs are effectively occupying the same space) can choose whether to fire at the artillery or foot.

He can shoot at either but only 1 target at a time.

Remember the muskets behind the guns do not fire. Only the bases on teh side of the guns. Yes you can put them on the side. I usually leave them behind and remember but each player has their own convention.

I assume the OP does mean Light Artillery and not Regimental Guns? The latter are not artillery, and the rules are different.

Thank you all for this information, I just feel for gaming its better to have the muskets shown where the true battle line is, so not to add confusion. I have not yet played the game (still painting my figures!!) I will have to learn more about the differences in artillery.
Any advise?
