Bug report: 2 big problems for Soviets

Post by Diplomaticus »

Folks, this just in from my opponent in a GS 2.0 game (it's now February 1944):

"...when you took the oilfields of the Caucasus Soviet oil reserves dropped more
than 50 points every turn no matter what I did to save oil, and they stay
at 15 each turn equally no matter what I do.... Second, Soviet convoys stalled, I have about 340 PPs
worth in soviet convoys that apparently will never reach the Soviet Union,
and I imagine no convoy will arrive for the rest of the game."

So, apparently there's some error where the Soviet oil reserves/production get screwed up after losing Baku to the Germans. Has anyone else seen this phenomenon?

I seem to remember reading a thread about stalled convoys--has this been fixed?

Happy New Year

Convoys are set to oil consumption of 1. Maybe we should set it to 0 in user.txt?

How did you manage to lose Baku? I guess the Axis player is about to win this game?

I see now--this makes sense. So the 2 bugs are really just aspects of the same one. Do you have any explanation of my opponent's report that "Regarding oil, every turn since my reserves dropped to zero, I get 15 oil, and no matter if I spend them or save all or part of the oil points, next turn I have 15, no less no more"? That doesn't seem right at all. If he's down to 2nd Baku, he should still be able to save up oil by not moving any planes, tanks, etc.

I don't want to give away any state secrets, but I mainly succeeded in taking Baku by following the advice of some Stuaffenberg guy on this here forum.

Gang,

A bit more detail on this bug. The following is an exchange of emails between me (Axis) and my opponent (Allies).

AXIS: "The problem with the convoys is an oil problem. The Murmansk convoys are tagged as USSR units, and they each use 1 oil to move. So that explains why they're stuck--they're out of fuel! I still don't have an answer about the oil being stuck at 15. In GS 2.0 you cannot fall to negative oil, so if the Russian oil production/turn is 15 (from 2nd Baku), then it makes sense that you'd start each turn with 15. What doesn't make sense is what you're reporting about not being able to stockpile any oil. By not moving/attacking with any of your oil-consuming units, you ought to be able to save up oil in your stockpiles."

ALLIES:
"I don´t think that is the answer, because one of the convoys moves normally while the other three don´t. Besides, they are not completely stuck, they move but only one or two hexes, and in CEAW any unit moving just one hex is spending oil. Furthermore, I have left for several turns 15 oil at the end of the turn to be used and it doesn´t matter.
Regarding oil, it is not only that I can stockpile it, when you took the Caucasus oilfields my oil reserves dropped steadily, about 50 oil per turn regardless of my desperate efforts to save oil, so that in a dozen of turns I run out of oil.
I am afraid those are code related bugs."

I'm really scratching my head over this one.
