All,
Is this how close defense works :
Tanks attacks infantry in woods
Tanks uses soft attack value vs infantry ground defense
then infantry counters
Infantry uses hard attack value vs tanks close defense
Also,
Do you only use close defense value when defending against infantry (does a tank attacking a tank in wood use close defense value)?
Thx

Close defense question

I've posted a longer response on the matrix forum.
But a quick reply: yes you are correct.
As the fighting is occuring in the hex occupied by the infantry unit which is close terrain therefore the tank will use it's close defense value

Yes, absolutely.Tanks attacks infantry in woods

Yes, but only if the fighting occurs in close terrain (woods, cities ...). In open terrain, it's ground defense, even against infantry. Also,

No, ground defense.(does a tank attacking a tank in wood use close defense value)?
You use close defense only when you are fighting infantry in close terrain (as an attacker or defender).

Re: Close defense question
One more thing to remember - the initiative cap. For woods its 2 so the tank has an initiative similar to inf and the inf can attack first with a better roll/jonpfl wrote:All,

Re: Close defense question
following above [and still learning details], if i get it right,
if flam tank (SA 6) shoots against inf in close terrain (GD 8 ) the effective attack value is -2
the inf retaliate (HA 1) against flam tank (CD 6) the effective attack value is -5
while if pioniere (SA 5) shoots against inf in close terrain (CD 2) the effective attack value is 3
the inf retaliate (SA 4) against pioniere (CD 2) the effective attack value is 2
that means the process of killing enemy infantry in close terrain should be faster but also more risky with another inf (pioniere).
