Preview new large counters

Post by Peter Stauffenberg »

We've updated the large counters for GS v2.01.35 and added numbers at zoom level 3 to the counters similar to board wargames. Here is a preview:

Thanks for the SS, these look very, very nice, can't wait to get to use them. I have bought several games recently and tried some demos, but I keep coming back to CEaW.GS. Remembering that this is a free mod, it is amazing that in pure enjoyment this game stacks up against some tough opposition, because it's fun to play, easy to learn, looks good and has great depth when you start to understand what's under the hood. You get to make decisions which really count and can take the game into a new direction each time, not just pushing counters around to an inevitable conclusion.

Thanks :D

Your not going to have any more numbers on the unit icon, but is it possible to have an option for choice over which items show. Could you have an option screen with check boxes for what you want to see on the counters, with the possibility of having more choices, such as tech level to show. :D

Nice extra info squeezed into the large counters. But can we have as an option to retain the GS v2.0 counter colours which I think match up the overall Osprey art work colour scheme. The new colours seem too bright and disconnected with the map.

You can use the small counters as an alternative to the large ones. You will not get the Osprey counters back because they were frankly too ugly and didn't follow the standard used in most wargames. Especially the air and naval units looked weird.

If you look at most board game wargames you will see that the counters are quite colorful and with quite a bit of detail. The most spectacular ones are maybe World In Flames. We've tried to get counters almost to that standard.

I love the new counters but they're only in the beta versions... does anyone have any idea when they're going to make them available in a non-beta patch?

Hopefully very soon. GSv2.10 is very near the end of beta testing. And after that, the schedule will depend on when Slitherine can build the installer.

I really like the screenshots of the counters and I noticed something else: the bodies of water have names on them now. Is that going to be new addition? It would really help with correlating how you're progressing in the game with history.
