Seeking advice for Lybian campain

Post by jld »

Hi all,

Until now I did not manage to achieve all objectives in the last scenario of the Lybian campain, called "Taking the hill" or something like that (I play the French version of the game). I succeeded for :
killing 40 units
killing the tiger
taking all VP

but I am unable so far to take the hill VP in 10 turn as requested (I spend a minimum of 12 turns doing so given the numerous bunkers at the top).
Any clue on how to have the job done here ?

Hi Jean-Luc,

I purchased both onboard artillery (25pdr units), and using the Hurricane and off board artillery, I was able to do two things ;

(1) Indentify the bunkers and the units (Hurricane).
(2) Bombard them (25pdr) so they become suppressed.

Then, ran the infantry to take the VP on the hill. Also, once any 88's are spotted and suppressed, I used my Shermans to help destroy any armor that counter attacked the hill.

Since you have played before, you should know where the bunkers are and it might be easier next time around!

Now, regarding your question about reinforcements (spoiler) ... When your total unit count drops below 10, you get reinforcements.

Thanks Merr for the useful clues, they give me the motivation to try the scenario again - I don't like to leave an objective behind.
I have noted that the onboard artillery was critical in this scenario and I took them also, but the idea to use the Hurricane for scouting the bunkers is interesting and I'll give it a try. Nevertheless any plane is severely punished with all those 88mm so the good timing is difficult to find.
About the variable reinforcements I first thought about a bug but your explanation bring light on this definitively.

Jean-Luc,

I think that taking the hill VP is a good exercise in (perhaps) a text book assault.
You could use that scenario as a training device to develop tactics for future scenarios.
Keep running that scenario until you take the hill ... then, run it again using your winning strategy to ensure it wasn't just luck!

I'm always using Air Support in that capacity (scouting). Even if the plane gets shot down, I know where the 88 is located, and I can use other assets to suppress it.

Three key procedures that I use for all engagements ;

(1) Identify
(2) Suppress
(3) Destroy

At that point, it's a matter of getting everyone (my units) into position for the Coup-de-grace!
