Could you kindly advise if it is possible to improve the all round ability of the AI, particularly in the context of improving their abilities to hit and destroy a target. Too many instances of 88mm shells deflecting from vulnerable low armoured rearward facing AFVs.

If you mean alter the stats on units, then you need to customise the squads file for your campaign.

The simplest way would be to copy the DATA\SQUADS.CSV into your campaign folder, then you can edit it as you like and your campaign will use your altered values.
