'Classic' Wargame Map with Operational Look

Post by IanF1966 »

Classic Wargame Maps

This map was inspired by the look of old GDW wargame maps I remember from when I was a kid.
I think the added topographical details and colours give a WW2 "operational" look to it.

To install:

First back up your these files in the main Commander Europe At War Folder - they are in the IMAGE/BACKGROUND folder:

Map100_nogrid.png
Map50_nogrid.png
Map25_nogrid.png

Rename or back up the original 3 maps, then copy and paste the new maps.

Have fun!

Jack W

Great looking map!

Will you be doing any more maps?

Might be interesting to experiment with some topographical/satellite maps from google earth.

Whoah - that would be difficult! We would have to somehow distort the images to fit the 'Goode Homolosine projection' that the game map is formatted with...
Actually, it might be worth asking the developers if modding will be supported -especially adding some selector button to choose modded maps and such on the game menu/options.

I think I read somewhere that anything could be used as a map. So it might be interesting to experiment. Only the look would change, since all terrain effects are separate.

Amazing job with the map. Jack W
Will you be doing a similar job on the units?
I'd love some old-school 'nato symbol unit graphics!

I think the counters and units look great as they are but I suppose someone will make some nato large-scale units.
I'm sure there are lots of graphic modders out there. If I get the time I'll attempt this.
