Sorry you are having problems.

What is your operating system? What are your full system specs including graphics card?

It's failing to start up the decoding of the movies. We use a codec which comes as a standard part of Windows, so it shouldn't be having any problems. Do you have Windows Media Player installed, as this might correctly install the codecs if they are somehow missing from your system.

Cheers

If you go to the dir you installed the game to and look for the data\battle\movies dir, then try renaming it to data\battle\XmoviesX, the game will no longer find the movies and we can test if it runs ok without them.

OK - this is very odd indeed. If it still returning the same error, it is saying that it can't find the file both with the correct naming, and without. It is also returning the wrong code for a missing file (it's using the generic error code instead of the Video for Windows code it should be using).

Do you have any odd codecs installed on your machine? Or do you have Nero or some other burning software, I know Nero replaces a lot of system codecs (I've had trouble with it myself).

I will take a look at the DLLs it is supposed to use when it plays the movies, and see if we can't drop one in the we know works to override your system DLLs. Though often it uses a whole slew of them, so it might be tricky.

Cheers

I've done some checking, and the file check (where it is failing) doesn't happen inside the decoding DLLs, it must be somewhere inside the guts of the core windows movie code. So it's a mystery both why it's failing to find the files, and also why it's returning the wrong code.

One thing you could try would be to install the game to a different directory (say C:\Rome ) and see whether that helps. Also, you might try navigating into the movies directory and trying to play the movies in media player (double clicking should just play them) - if they simply won't play on your system then at least we'll have more information.

Cheers

I went into the movies directory and manually played the movies on my media player but the actual game will still not start.

Did you try reinstalling to a different, simpler, directory?
