Difficulty is a Bit Much

Playing on field marshal diff.
Sometimes you lose a core unit, if you dont scout ahead, you will lose units, recons are food for ambushers!
The event when 1 infantry bogs down your column of troops is what makes this game so fun! This usually happens with entrenched infantry in cities. To solve this issue you bombard them with artillery, then you bombard with more artillery, then send bombers, and soften them up properly, before sending your infantry to attack. I must note that sometimes if you are short on turns, you have to force take objective and suffer lossess, but in general, the only missions where you can lose alot of troops are sea invasions.
To the OP, use recons, send planes to scout as well, and move in formation.Use aux troops when expect a massacre. And use artillery to soften the enemy. Some lossess are expected, if you always have 0 lossess, then the game would suck!

A light RPG-style system. Being able to recruit Heroes to our unit depending on the unit experience and costing some prestige.rezaf wrote:Heh, that's probably taking it a bit too far. Maybe in Panzer Corps (DLC/expansion) we could get the possibility to create custom hero types (with widely varied options for their effects) for mods and assign heroes to units in the editor, that'd be great, but anything worth bearing the name "RPG-style system" would be beyond the scope of the game system in my eyes.impar wrote:A RPG-style system for units?
also remember that this is germanys first attack they dont have alot of experience and polish dont also so lets put it at a rate of 2 to 1 panzer 1and 2 are not great tanks.german airforce is great for the most part but bullets kill in any direction.safe to say polish did put up good fighting in certain areas.this also goes for the finns against the russians.russia thought they would be pushovers but they defended there homeland.give some credit to polish armys they will fall if you have a good strategy.

Re: Difficulty is a Bit Much
I am very happy with the difficulty. Not sure it is worth talking whether it is realistic from the force ratios since the objective of the game is to be entertaining.Abraxes12 wrote:Hey all
Love the game... but am I alone in thinking the random projections before battle are a bit ridiculous? They are INCREDIBLY inaccurate. The enemy does consistently more damage than is reported... I usually do less. I'm playing on mid difficulty overall, and I'm getting a bit frustrated with the game despite the fact that I think it is a great attempt. Simply put, it is unfair in it's predictions (sadistically so, it seems) and it seems a little TOO hard. I know I can turn the difficulty down... I'm posting this because it seems like when you go through great effort to plan a brilliant series of attacks with excellent, full strength units in combination (air, artillery and making use of surrounding the enemy, etc.) you should not suffer horrendous losses in EVERY single combat... Polish troops were NOT that TOUGH, guys. Come on... I'm not for getting rid of randomness or making the game super easy, but it is terrifically unsatisfying to play a really good tactical game and suffer big losses at every turn from some of the weakest enemies the Germans faced. I'd be grateful if the game was balanced a bit better. As it stands, I may get too frustrated to continue playing much more if every single scenario is fraught with massive losses (I have superior equipment... I plan my attacks at least reasonably well... yet STILL I suffer losses in EVERY engagement, even the ones where I should BLOW THE ENEMY AWAY.???????!!!!!)
But most of the german successes can not purely be attributed to better material or higher numbers, but to a great extend to art-of-war (in fact german tanks where not that great initially).
This is why it always works best on those games to be the german player who is more clever than the computer with its higher numbers or better material.

Ha, and I was just criticizing the lack of difficulty in another thread. Sometimes, the developers must cry out in despair.
Well, it might be true that you get more unfavourable results in combat than you should suffer statistically (any volunteer present to generate a statistically sound sequence of repeats to verify or falsify that sentiment?
). Otoh, the AI is pretty helpless and whenever you restart a scenario that proved to be too tough, you have so much pre-knowledge of the positioning and strength of the deployed troops, their likely movements and behaviour patterns that an adapted strategy is easily implemented to give you a serious boost over the opposing forces. And the AI can't fight back against that, so next to your ability to adapt to the implemented rules, you also "know" more than the AI does - an invincible combination in almost every case.

I think it was in this thread that Rudankort and rezaf discussed just such tests and results.Reqin wrote: (any volunteer present to generate a statistically sound sequence of repeats to verify or falsify that sentiment? ).

To give my two cents, I don't think difficulty is per se too much, but IMO in a given difficulty the balance of early war scenarios vs. later scenarios (judging from the vanilla campaign) is a tad off, with the latter being too easy, the first maybe a bit too painful.
Sure it has to do with the core growing, getting more xp and better equip, so it's not a totally new prob from PG days. Just my impression of course.

Interesting, thanks for telling me about that thread!El_Condoro wrote:I think it was in this thread that Rudankort and rezaf discussed just such tests and results.Reqin wrote: (any volunteer present to generate a statistically sound sequence of repeats to verify or falsify that sentiment? ).
