Panzer Corps Multiplayer Not working

Post by snoonk »

Recently purchased Panzer Corps wanting to play multiplayer like I do in FOG - but am unable to connect. I am running Windows XP and have a good solid internet connection, but I continue to get an unable to connect to server message saying check my internet - I have even turned off the Windows firewall completely and no change.

I wondered if I had something wrong in a setting (beng new to the game anm not sure about preferences) and went to the Change Settings in the PCW Gamemenu - and I get a screen that shows a flashing "loading" message that never loads.

Is there a pref somewhere that I can delete or change manually? I have dumped and completely reinstalled the 1.0 app and the 1.04 update twice to no avail....

Help? Suggestions?

It's your anti virus or the firewall on your router if you use one.

Are you able to connect via FoG to the server from this machine?

Yes, I can use FOG without any issues - I play regularly online

ome background - I am on a Hughesnet system in western Alaska - I use both Mac OS X and Windows XP - was playing FOG multiplayer from Windows version without any issues - switched to Mac version of FOG and still no issues with multiplayer (although I cannot go back to FOG for Windows now - gives me a "User has multiple serial numbers error in multiplayer).

Bought Panzer Corp - works fine on my MacBook Pro - plays fine in single player - computer has no issues with any other internet service or server.
but...
  • will not connect to multi-player server on HughesNet satellite connection 1MB/256kbps (650ms latency)
will not connect to multi-player server on another terrestrial network (28ms latency)
DOES connect to multi-player server (all with same settings on my computer with no changes to virus software, firewall or anything else) on a high bandwidth satellite network at my office (10MB satellite bandwidth)
Am curious if there are different time out settings between the two servers FOG and PzCps or built into the software - and if so is there some kind of patch I can get - I don't at this point think it has anything to do with Windows, firewalls, routing, or my network - it seems to be some kind of timeout feature... my work network differs from my home HughesNet network only in the amount of bandwidth available to pass data over a period of time.

Test that worked was about noon Alaska time - tests that did not were between 4PM and midnight Alaska time..

Appreciate any help you can give.

This is because you haev used different serials on your PC and Mac. Install the PC with the same serials as your mac and you'll be able to play on either. The serials are linked to your account so only one set per player needed, not per computer.

The server is exactly the same so I cant see why one works and the other doesnt. I dont mean they are identical I mean both games run off the same server using the same code.

I'm not sure what to suggest.... :(

Further testing - installed FOG on PC and it runs fine on same computer that will not connect to PanzerCorps server. Is there a different setting in software for timeouts between two games possibly? I am still getting a will not connect - check internet connection. Connection is fine and works for FOG. Suggestions?

I thought about a completely clean install of PZCps - but need to know where to remove all files and prefs so it really is a clean install.

Thanks for any help you can give.

FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT...

Post by snoonk »

It appears that while FOG does NOT look at proxy settings in Windows Internet Explorer, Panzer Corps DOES look at them for its network connection... I almost never use Internet Explorer (am a Firefox user) and the last time I used it I left a proxy for a work network set up.

Tonight I decided to run Windows Update quickly to see if there were items I was missing. It would not connect. After diabling the proxy in Internet Explorer's settings, I tried PzCps - it works great...

This is a note you might want to post for folks having trouble with Multiplayer in PzCps and not in FOG - have them check their Internet Explorer settings...

Thanks,

Steve
