Changing Technology Names

Hi guys, great to join you all!

Is it possible using the technolgy_eng file to change the names of technology?
e.g. Instead of Anti-Tank Guns 3 change it to: "88mm AT Guns" ?

Yes should work. Every red text in the scripts are supposed to be the displayed names in different languages. This means the names you see there in english can be changed also. Will be fun to see how it turned out when you edited them :)

Yes sure - just change the 2nd column in the technology file. Make sure you do not add any spaces though. You must use _ underscores which get replaced by spaces when displayed by the code.

I followed your advice and renamed techs in the 'translation' area, and the addition of a' _' for spaces and the game will not load at all.
Change back to the original names and it loads.
I tried the same for unit names and same problem...

Checksum problem?

Are you editing the text file or xls? If editing the text file count the columns to make sure you are editing the correct one as the formating is not clear in the text.

I save the text file as an .xls, modify then save as a text.

Always start with the xls in the mod zip. You cannot go from text to xls.

Ok - I've done this but there is a weird problem:

If I name Organisation 1 "Name_1" then Organisation 2 "Name_2" then in the game it lists all Organsiation levels as "Name_1" -even if I have several names for the different levels.

Arrgh, yes sorry. You cannot name every single tech advance game will search for the translation name of the first level of a technology and use that for each level. I did not think of that before.

Thanks anyway for the help guys; Its not an essential thing I was attempting -just trying to add a bit of techie flavour.

Maybe for a future update?

By the way, I really love this game (and I've been playing WW2 strategy games since I was a kid).
