Convoys

Post by Bern »

Before I get into the game, which looks stunning, I wonder if I could ask for some clarification regarding convoys. Clearly this is a fairly crucial area of the game, particularly if you are playing GB.

At the start of the game, there are three convoys all from GB carrying supplies. What is the situation regarding convoys to the UK? Does the program generate these itself, if so is there some criteria for such generation? Is it possible for the player to intervene in the creation - for example, convoys from Canada etc.?

If the player controls the country, it has total control over convoys.

If you control the UK, but the AI controls Canada, the AI will manage all Canadian convoys.

Thanks for that. Still not clear to me though. Human controlling Brit Colonies, which I assume includes Canada. I cannot see a way to get convoys from there. What about areas which are not on the map ie Australia etc. How to get convoys from there?

British colonies are simulating all British oversea countries, which includes Canada, India, Australia etc.

If you will be able to stop those convoys, you can starve Brits to death.

That's the point. I'm playing GB and what I want to know is how to start ther convoys.

So the British Colonies are going to send you their resources by themselves, as long as they have enough ships to transport them.

The 'British Colonies' are a separate country in game terms. The AI for the British Colonies will handle sending PPs to the UK. Alternatively, you can assign the British Colonies to player control, and do the convoys yourself. The British colony starting port is in the lower left corner of the map.

Thanks - that's what I was looking for. I have the Colonies set to Human - when I go to this starting point, however, I still can't get a convoy started - the pop-up in the convoy info mentions 'Yellow circles' - not seen one of these. Additionally I can't do anything with the Gurkha unit which is in the Colony hex. Transport is not allowed as "The unit belongs to another player" which is incorrect.

You're treading new territory, as far as I'm concerned. I do recall someone saying that the unit there in the Colonies can't be moved, period.

Odd that you can't create a convoy. I did so, from there to Southhampton.

The color of the circle depends on the skin you are using. The yellow one is used for default Normal map skin.

This unit can not be moved.

Also the British Colonies are included into the game to represent Battle for Atlantic and to encourage player to watch his convoys.

Thanks to both. First and most obvious question would be why can't the Gurkha unit move?

It would appear that the only way to play would be to allocate the Colonies to AI control. Actually, I now find that I can't set up a new convoy from anywhere to anywhere. This is frustrating. Either I'm being incredibly stupid or possibly something has gone adrift with the download - I believe there were problems there.

Finally did get a convoy up from the colonies - by changing the map to normal thus bringing up the 'yellow circle'. At least now I know where to click.

Still like an answer to the Gurkha question.

The Ghurka unit is there to protect the Colonies from attack. There are no coasts, and paratroopers shouldn't reach it, but just another security.
