Mac Beta?

Post by macattack »

I know Slitherine is going to release a Mac version of PzC in the "future." Is there going to be a beta before the release :?:

With a Mac, you can switch and run in windows.

Check with your tech on how to do this.

Yes, I know about Parallels and Boot Camp. No need to consult a tech.

But as I battled with Molve over before, I do not want to turn my Apple into a PC, and import all of the Windows problems related thereto. I already have the Windows Office software specifically designed for the Mac, and it is the only software that does not work properly. I have had Windows and PC's for almost 30 years. I have no wish to return.

But of course, the penalty is that I will have to wait for the Mac release.

Yeah, no complaints because you were clear on that back in July when I inquired. I figured the Mac release for Xmas would be great, and you guys said not to count on Xmas.

I'm still hoping for Spring!

macattack - Man, you are a die-hard! . . . and I mean that in a good way! I had an Amiga once and I was like that too. Just wanted games for the Amiga or converted to the Amiga. Unfortunately, the support for Amiga flamed out and I had no options but to switch. My sis and her family uses Macs too and they swear by them. :)

Yes, that's my worst fear, that Mac ends up going the way of Amiga. Or the old VHS vs. Beta days. The cheaper adequate product that has huge market share vs. the expensive high quality product that has limited market share.

I really doubt. Some of the Mac users have a Kamikaze soul. I don't want to think what would happen if Mac ended like Amiga.
Besides I've the feeling they are slowly winning more market share with each new year. My personal experience tell me, that once a person begin to use a Mac he/she doesn't want to go back to Windows. I'm staying away from them, since Apple II. Never felt attract.
We all know that the future passes through the handheld devices.
And in my opinion, they have a better product now, in that market segment.

I hope you are right. Hopefully Apple's grip on the hand-held devices (pardon the pun  ) will continue and we can end up with quality hand-held computers in the future.

I don't doubt the Mac users' kamikaze soul, but market share bothers me. If PC continues to grow, quality won't matter.

Look at it in PzC terms... 100 T-34's vs. 10 King Tigers. Who are you going to bet on?

Apple needs market share. :(

Apple in Australia is on fire (in the positive sense!) - with iPhone and iPad leading the way, but also Macbooks. Until 2 months ago I was completely a PC person - not an Apple product in the house - but I decided that, as an educator, Apple is the future and bought an iPad, then an iPhone for my wife and I and, finally, a MacBook to learn development on. The busiest shop in the busiest shopping centre (Mall in the US) is the Apple store where they have at least 40 staff on deck at any time and more than that in customers. All I can say is I love Apple stuff (I am typing this on a PC but am surrounded by 4 Apple products on the desk).

I wouldn't worry about the future of Apple - it was the first computer I ever used back in 1981 (30 years - man, I'm getting old!) and it is getting stronger. I don't see it as competition and the PC and Mac can co-exist. IMO PC does business applications best and games, and Mac does graphics and usability brilliantly. An oversimplification, but my point is there is room in the computer world for both. I certainly don't see it as a capitulation to have Parallel loaded on my MacBook and Win 7 - it means I get the best of both worlds on the one machine. If native Mac games look a distant dream, get into them this way - the outlay for Parallel and the OS are worth it, IMO.

I agree, but the gaming world still designs for PC first!

Wrong.
It designs for Internet and consoles, first.

And then you've games like Skyrim, designed for the use in consoles and PC but unable to run it properly in the lousy consoles hardware.
The UI was created with a gamepad in mind. It's one of the worst UI I've seen in the last years. Poor PC fellows.
However look at Skyrim and PS3:

I'm not a big Skyrim fan. Not because of the whole copyright thing. I have no problem paying for a good product. If you did a good job you deserve the pay.

But like you said, it's a buggy beast.
