Making more SE units

Post by airbornemongo101 »

Can a stock unit be changed/copied into an SE unit?(IE:Enable the game to have SE Flak,Arty,Recon units to award the player)

If it can, what would be the procedure?

I'm not looking to replace/tweak any values or use any new graphics,,just have a wider variety of SE availible, specifically w/ the added numbers of SE slots that are going to be allocated in the DLC'S.

I plan on this being my 1st baby steps in modding ,if it's possible, and I will share if it can be done.

I'll try and figure out the whole differnt SE skin thing after I figure out how to make more SE units

P.S.

If there is going to be a greater variety of SE units (Flak,Arty,etc..)made by the devs in the future I will disregard this whole idea

I know you say you are not looking to "tweak" anything, but with the Equipment Editor you can easily make these units with equivalent values, traits, etc. of a typical SE unit. Usually it is the experience level, initiative, etc. that makes the difference. Just clone a basic Flak unit for example and adjust these values to meet the appropriate levels and retitle the unit with a camouflage icon. Save it to your equipment file. You have an SE Flak unit.

Most people here do not refer much to the "cheat codes" but you can tweak the core and auxilliary units with this feature for any given scenario. Surely a little tweak in this won't hurt the integrity of the game play TOO AWFULLY MUCH! Just treat them like champagne, a little can be just right, too much can cause a loose grip on reality.

Make sure you set the "bonus" trait on the unit for it to be treated as SE.

Once you learn how to use the features of the Equipment Editor, just like an M16, it becomes your BEST friend.

Hoo-ah (I myself prefer the 60 gun  ,M60 that is,but I get ur point  )

Ok,,something is wrong

I have renamed a test unit (Pionere) to SS_Pionere and have it in the Graphics folder (C\Program(x86\slitherine\panzer coprs\graphics\units

I navigate to the Graphics folder, open the units folder, the folder appears (along w/ all of the icons).

No problems to this point

The editor stops there.

I can not go any further,I cannot select add unit in the editor, everything I try I either get an error message or that annoying ping

I've run the editor both normally and as admin

What am I doing wrong?

P.S. Here is the error meesage:

e the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

That message appears when you're not opening the right file.
You've to load first "equipment.pzeqp" in your Data folder.

Ok,,got it
Open the "equipment.pzeqp".
I'll try the process again :?

*****Edit*****

Partial sucess
The "new" Pioniere unit showed up,,with all of the correct traits,,but labeling was wrong.

Gonna try agian.
I will post update later

*****Second Edit********

Ok,,,got the new unit showing as #1522 (after about a bizzilion screw-ups :x )in the equipmnet file with all the same traits of a regualr Pionere unit+ bonus trait

Here is what is showing in the equip. file
1522 SE Pioniere 0 193 5 0 2 2 0 2 6 4 -1 1 8 17 2 0 0 SS_Pioniere.png 30.06.1939 31.12.1946 3 SE Pioniere close meng fortkiller bonus Eng

My next step was that I placed a SE Gerbj on the Poland map and loaded the game using the win cheat to complete the scn. so I could upgrade it in Norway as a test.

The snag is when I went to upgrade the Gerbj. the Big Units icon was showing the squiggly line thingy.

Anybody know what I screwed up now :?

Thanks again for the help and patience in helping me w/ this. I know it's simple,,but somehow I keep on screwing up

******3rd Edit***********

Figured it out,,all is good :D

Ain't touchin' anything more until tommorow

Thanks to all

I've got another question :?

Can I use still use the vanilla icon when making a new SE unit?

I know I have to make/rename and use new icons (from the Camo'd Units Mod) for the armored units that don't have an SE skins already (Hummel,Ostwind,etc...) if I want them to use a skin other than vanilla Feld Grau,as well as making a new efx enrty for the firing animation and the movement sounds. I'm actually going to use the skins for the armor from the Camo Mod ,and replace the vanilla SE units, so that there is a continuity (of sorts) w/ all of the armor/veh skins.

Here is where my gray matter started itching   (A very, very, rare occurence :D )

The vanilla pioniere icon already is a brownish color, which kinda goes along w/ the vanilla SE infanrty class skins,so i was just going to keep using the vanilla icon when making the new entry,is this possible. :?:

The same would go for the arty units since there is no new icons for them. I use going to just make a new equiptment file number, but keep using the Feld Grau until a better icon becomes availible.

Is this possible?

I was thinking it would be less work and theoritically I would not have to re-do the EFX file because I'm still using the old icon.

Am I correct in my assumptions?

P.S.

It goes w/o saying Flak and Rezaf will get credit in the notes for the skins as well as VP,Flak, and El ConDoro (so far)for their help and patience :D. When this monstrosity is released

Yes, I can't see why not.

From what I've understood, yes. You can repeat the icon the number of times you want in the equipment file. Of course the same doesn't happen with efx file.

Thanks VPaulus for another timley response

The post was a little verbose and meandering  ,but I was trying to make sure I got my point across in a way that would make sense

Thanks for deciphering

See what I mean about not using the gray mush encased in my cranium enough  ??

****EDIT***

Tested a vanilla pioniere and new SE pioniere side by side on map w/o changing icon or efx, just new values,,all ok

Thanks again :P

ABmongo, you are learning through the curve on the Equipment Editor just like I did. Boy!........ you have to concentrate when you are dialing all those little tweaks in to the units. One bad step, and your foot is blown off at the ankle or you balls go up in the sky!

The guy who wrote the Equipment Editor is Mr. Garnett on the Matrix Forum. He visits here sometimes. He is such a nice guy and he helped me through the learning curve tremendously. I am no expert but I can do what I want with the units now, especially with the Cheat Codes and one glass of Champagne.

The answer is YES to use any icon you want for a unit. You can even make Soviet paratroopers in German Uniforms to drop behind the lines! You've got the power now. That is the reason I wrote in that thread to only do this stuff when you can focus and concentrate without being disturbed until all the steps are complete is because in going through the steps, if you miss on one, you're FUBAR and you probably won't even know it until later.

I think you're gonna like how this turns out

I'm making SS units as well as SE units. I was going to post a thread later,,but what the h#ll I'll do it tonight
