Question for staff concerning map and graphs

Post by welk »

I am a serial and compulsive  modder (in particular, at this time : MH-CEAW)

viewtopic.php?p=281650#281650

I discovered this forum and I am interrested to play and to do modding work with CTGW. If I buy it, I will modify lot of things I saw on screens, to improve the look of game in "14-18 spirit" (rairoad lines, cities, fortress, etc).

My questions are :

1/Is the map builded like MH-CEAW : a unic big map file for each level zoom (3 levels), with data files that generate a very great number of "tiles maps", or is the map builded like Strategic Command 1 of Battlefront (ground and see hex generated by simple rows of little graphs placed in a file and extracted by the program to generate map during the game) ?

2/If the map is builded like in MH-CEAW (one unic big map file for each level zoom), second question, please : are the railroads line included in the map or are these railroad lines in separated little files (more easy to modify for better look)

3/Are they 2D counters like in MH-CEAW, for the 3 zoom levels ?

My idea is to associate, for a special "14-18 ambiance map", color graphs (units counters, cities, some other details, etc) and "sepia map ground" (like old military map of this time)

Take a look : (It is only "exploration sample", because I have not the graph files of the game. If I had, I could realize this winter a entire "pre-mod" for the game, that would be included as free with the game when it will be awailable 8) )

I have a tool to make the entire map as "sepia map". The map would be set more (or not, as preferences) clear, all is possible

A little bit more clear map

I would replace the big stars and big circle of cities and fortress by little stars and circle, with different colors, etc : the goal is to have a "sepia map" in backgropund, and color indications, exactly as if you were a 14-18 general working with your tools in color on a old sepia military map to prepear your operations and offensives :"14-18 ambiance"

I will also clear some graph on the map, to attenuate the "dark effect" of fow graph, to have a more esthetic old sepia map.

The modding excitation comes...

The original map : more modern, more colors, but not very "14-18 ambiance" (in my opinion)

So, if I had the game graphs (maps, cities, units, emblems, etc), I could begin to work now this "sepia ambiance mod" to be included in the definitive game as free bonus mod

The campaignmap uses a single, large PNG file. Railroads are drawn on this map, so no seperate layer
Unit icons can be switched between "little tanks and soldiers" or unit counter, just like previous Commander games.

Ok, thanks, will wait the eventual demo to see the files. Other question, please : are cities and Fortress drawn on the map too, or placed in separate files like MH-CEAW ?
