I've just rebought the game from Matrix in order to have a version which does not require a cd-rom but i can't seem to make it work on my netbook...the intro movie shows fine but i don't reach the menu...any idea?

What is the screen rez on the device? Spartan requires (IIRC) 1024x768 to play.

Legion is 800x600 but Chariots of War is 1024x768.

Depending on the netbook model, some have special 'modes' or hacks which allow for a scrolling 1024x768 screen. Google might be your friend in this case.
