Blathergut's Notes of '41 :)
4th Scenario: Minsk
-captured item...no sound...looks snazzy in German grey though! But should there be tread sounds and such?

It's an issue of the EFX file. It's configured properly, but it's not being read by the game for some reason. Another hiccup of the new system, but we're aware of it.
If you want to fix it yourself, you can move the EFX file from the DLC1941 folder and move it to the main graphics folder of the PzC install.
Just remember to always back up your files first just in case.

Completed 5th and 6th scenarios on General level.
Smolensk was interesting for the Russian attacks that came at me. Drove a small group north and drove around up there only to eventually turn around because I didn't want to assault south over the river. Took Smolensk on the 2nd last turn. So once again, a very close game and enjoyable.
Headed towards Kiev. It seemed a much more straightforward slugfest with few options. Less enjoyable that the previous one (since there were no surprises or options for manoeuver and such).
Nothing captured (but my previously captured Russian tanks gained a hero and an iron cross).

7th Scenario: East of Kiev?
Stumbled too close to the city the first time through and paid the price! Second time, kept my distance, survived the attacks that come in from the east. The infantry were tough at 15 strength each, but survivable. Most Russian armour took a beating from stukas and then were finished off by German tanks.
Again, a good game, but not overly difficult even on General level, if you kept away from Kiev.

Sounds good to me. Scenarios are meant to be won. Challenging with unique twists, but not crushingly difficult.Blathergut wrote:Again, a good game, but not overly difficult even on General level, if you kept away from Kiev.
For the elite (or just plain masochists) they have these optional tasks (such as taking Kiev prematurely) that they can go after for the fun of it.

That's true. I kept clear of the southeast corner too. So, there could be more challenge if desired.Kerensky wrote:Sounds good to me. Scenarios are meant to be won. Kiev 2 I drifted a bit south myself unintentionally, and it was only as I noticed I was attracting Russian admirers that I looked at the map and realized how close I was getting to Kiev, I moved further east after that and that relieved the pressure on that flank. Personally I liked the Kiev fights, the Russians just keep coming in mass waves, they were good fights alright

8th scenario
I was slaughtered twice in it and had swarms of Russians come out of Kiev behind me.
Third time, concentrated on taking Kiev first and moving cautiously in the centre and holding on the eastern side. This worked well and saw the Germans take Kiev about halfway through the game then madly race across to the eastern victory cities, making and taking the last one on turn 16.
Second captured unit was nice. At least knowing there are 8 out there, it adds to replay value for sure.
The scenario was a challenge on General level, for sure. Very enjoyable.
On to Moscow it seems.

Last scenario on General level, decisive.
Seemed easy. Took no fighters, mostly armour, 3 arty + nebels + 3 StUGs. The Russians, esp. in the southeast corner, lined up 2 rows deep and just kept surrendering. I actually ended up taking two of the cities down there and holding against the armour that appeared at the end. Nothing came in from the west at me. Northeast was the main battle but we just rotated defenders in the fortifications and ocassionally drove armour out to kill and then return to refit.
Now...the 4th transport pulled in over the airfield on turn 22.

I removed the Romanian ATG unit from the map and replaced it with the Somua. New Somua icon didn't see a lot of use (only one instance in all of DLC 1940) and it's very historical that Axis minor nations used captured enemy equipment. Expect to see more of these units in the future. Old French, British, and Russian tanks in service with Romanians and Hungarians especially.
Instead of using "captured" tanks with an axis minor flag, it is far more interesting to use the Romanian and Hungarian tanks in the game.Kerensky wrote:I removed the Romanian ATG unit from the map and replaced it with the Somua. In my opinion, only using the captured tanks, is a too easy solution in DLC development.
While that might be ideal, production of new units is a long and expensive process. Those 7 new Russians units we were very lucky to have (free of charge BTW) were months in the making.
So because we can't always add new units, we have to make the most of the units we do have.
It's still historical though, I won't give the Hungarians Jumbo Shermans or anything like that. lol

Well i understand now. I hope after the sales there will be some budget left for some new unitsKerensky wrote:While that might be ideal, production of new units is a long and expensive process. Those 7 new Russians units we were very lucky to have (free of charge BTW) were months in the making.

Also, with such a lively modding community, i'm certain there are already several members capable of producing some very nice units for the game and probably free of charge.
Why not engage them?
Well the idea behind the DLC is to keep production cost down. Hence skipping out of the VO, and passing the savings to the customers.
If each DLC came with:
A campaign
Voice overs
New Units
and more...
It's not a little DLC anymore, it's becoming a full fledged expansion.
When we see our first full fledged expansion, I'm certain we'll see all kinds of extra trimmings (and a corresponding price).
Until then though, the DLC make the most possible use of existing assets, and anything added into the DLC is strictly a bonus. Such as bonus skins for bonus captured units.

As for approaching the modder community to make official content (units or scenario or campaigns), that's not up to me.
If you think there is someone who can contribute in such a way, I would recommend you tell them to try and get in touch with The Lordz and Slitherine and see if they can work something out.
Doesn't hurt to ask, right?

All considered, the rate of efficiency must be sky-high, if all of you manage to make such a great products like the DLC's and improving the main game as well.
