DLC core porting question

Post by El_Condoro »

I haven't done this before as I have started each DLC campaign with the preset forces. So now I have run through DLC 39 again and DLC 40 just started without any break. I expected a choice to bring in my 39 core or start with the preset, or to be able to start DLC 40 from fresh and bring in the 39 core. Obviously, I have got this all wrong! How is the core porting done? Can you 'export' a core at some point and 'import' it into a campaign? Any help in filling this gap in my understanding would be appreciated. :) Cheers

When you finish the last mission of DLC 39 on the debriefing screen you will also read that your core is saved for DLC 40.When you start DLC 40 afresh before the first deployment screen, you will be prompted if you want import your DLC 39 core or not (this is the only opportunity to do so).

For everytime you finish DLC 39/40 your core is saved. The more you finish a DLC campaign, the more cores you can chose from to import into the next DLC. (ofcourse only 1 core per DLC).
So core 39 goes to 40, core 40 goes to 41 and so on.

Also, with a minor adjustment in the campaign.pzdat, you could load your DLC 39 core into DLC 41 for example but i'm sure nobody is going to do that ;).

What is described did not happen for me at the end of DLC 39.

I went through Warsaw South, refused the Russian duel, got a 'congratulations' and was then straight into DLC 40 - no save message and no option to load from previous campaigns. Now, this might be as it should be - after all, I have only finished one DLC and so there is nothing to select from. I should be able to select when I get to DLC 41, though - my 39 or 40 campaign core.

Is that right?

I don't think it is, because I should be able to select my 39 core when I start a *new* DLC 40 campaign.

[Edit]: Doh!! The Norway scenarios, although taking place in 1940 are in the 1939 DLC! I haven't finished 1939 yet. Argh! That sorts that problem out. :)

After the russian duel, the DLC is not over yet.
You have to finish the missions in norway also.

Yes, it was a mistake - I saw 1940 in the scenario titles and thought it had started the 1940 DLC. I know better now. :)

Just to clarify, sometimes the DLC campaigns have a little spill over into the following year.

This is mostly to keep the campaign well organized. Otherwise, we would have problems with winter campaigns in the later DLCs. Half the campaign would land in one DLC with the other half landing in the next. Because the DLC are on a tier system, this would result in very anti-climatic miniature campaigns (the beginning of say... Stalingrad would be very difficult because it's at the end of a DLC but the conclusion would be much easier because it concludes at the starts a new DLC).

Plus the action at Norway fits better into 1939 than it does 1940, for a variety of reasons. :)

Completely agree. It also means the number of scenarios can be evened out a bit, otherwise 1939 would be too short or made up of even more Polish scenarios.

Definitely one of those "variety of reasons" ;)
