Decline and Fall – no need for scenario designers to wait fo

Post by Hoplite1963 »

In field of glory, figures images are broken down by subject folders which do not necessarily correspond to the armies covered in the DAG lists that ship with that particular game. Also just before a new module is released any new images to be added to existing subject folders that will shop with that new modules are also added to previous modules that have these same subject folders.

This means that as Decline & Fall does not introduce any new subject folders that all the new images that will ship with it were actually already available now to anybody who has these earlier modules and who has upgraded their copy of the game to 1.70 Set out below are a list of the subject folders that were in the Decline & Fall Beta together with details of the earlier modules that have these folders. I have also included details of the of the additions to each folder. Hopefully the module abbreviations are self explanatory.

Arab Crusades = S&S, EE, SofA = You get some additional Arab type infantry and light cavalry figures particularly suitable for the Arab Conquest period and North African Armies
Arab Early = RofR, IF, S&S, = As far as I can tell a couple of additional infantry figures suitable for negro / black guard type troops
Arab Later = S&S, EE, SofA = Some additional Arab Camelry figures and pair of LF Berber Javelinmen
Byzantine = S&S, EE = Quite a few additions here including some nice cavalry groups of two lancers and one cavalry archer. Unfortunately the new lance armed Trapezetoi cavalry battle groups are currently only available as CAV and not LH. This was highlighted in the Beta forum and is being corrected in a later patch.
Crusader = S&S, EE
Crusader Other = S&S, EE
Feudal Foot = S&S, EE = A few changes here including a very nice “feudal MF Javelinmen e drilled” that would do very well for Late / Sub Roman troops in leather armour, particularly if it was made available in a HF variant, hint hint
Frank = LT, EE = For me this where the new stars of the figure additions are to be found. We have some very nice Breton. Lombard & Carolingian cavalry figures with each nation getting a new heavy and medium cavalry battle group and a variation of both of these with a general figure. The Breton Light cavalry also need to be added in LH format but as with the Trapezetoi this has been picked up in beta and will be corrected in a later patch. My only real gripe here is the “Lombard HF Spearmen” figure who don’t appear to have any spears
Ottoman = EE
Parthian = R&R, LT. EE
Persian Islamic = EE = A few really nice additions here including some armoured horse archers and lance and bow armoured cavalry on armoured houses that would look great an any Middle Eastern on Central Asian Army from the Sassanid’s onwards. There also a good “persian HF armoured infantry” figure who would stand up well as dismounted Sassanid Heavy Cavalry roped in to assault a breach in Roman or Byzantine fortifications. Finally there is also a nice “persian MF afghan Javelinmen” figure (also available as LF) who we could also do with in HF form at some stage.
Numidian = RofR, IF = A couple of extra battlegroups each if MF and HF infantry spearmen. All for of which would do very well for African / Black Guard troops in Arab employ
Russian = EE = A very nice axe armed heavy infantryman with a large oblong shield “russian-HF-axman-a! has been added here, the spitting image of the “Rus Warrior” illustrated in figure 74 on page 95 of Ian Heath’s “Armies of the Dark Ages, 600 to 1066AD, perhaps we could have a variant of this figure armed with a long spear at some point.
Sassanid = LT
Saxon = LT = Mo now figures as far as I can see but some new battle groups using existing ones such as MF version of the existing LF archers and a HF version of one of the existing LF spear and shield armed battle groups.
Steppes = S&S =

Enjoy , if you have the relevant modules you can start using the now figures for scenario design right now.

Yes, the Carloginian cavalry ( especially the ones with the pennants on the lances) are really nice, plus some of the Byzzie heavy foot ( love the "macemen")

Unfortunately, some of the Byzzie mixed cavalry units are still out of wack, with the center archer type being tiny compared to the flanking lancers.

To use the new DAG and quick play armies in multiplayer and to paly the new HIstorical scenerios that will ship with the game :-)

However you have however highlighted a potential problem which, while it is new to “Decline & Fall” is likely to recur with the next two modules. I have some ideas on ways round this and will post them in the next couple of days.

Thanks for bring this up

DAG battles and multiplayer. Plus scenario creation (while possible even without the said module - thanks slitherine, I DO appreciate this a whole lot!) is easier if you own the module. All this made me purchase the "Rise of Rome" module (and I'll likely purchase the Immortal Fire and Swifter than Eagles as a combo when the latter comes out).

Unfortunately, "Swifter than Eagles," it is my understanding, has been terminated.

Shame really. I was looking forward to some Egypt vs Hittite or Egypt vs Assyria battles :/
