Minimum Points

Post by guthroth »

Ok, following on from my 'One-Day Competition' Thread what is the minimum points value that would be reasonable working from the existing army list books ?

I'm ruling out the 'starter' armies because they vary too much, so would 650 points (maximum 3 generals) work ?

Hi Pete

Hammy currently runs 650 points at 2.5 hours per game so we get a good 3 games in a one day competition.

He imposes no maximums on the generals but at 650 points I've not known anyone voluntarily take 4.

I have run a number of 650 point tournament, and find them to be an interesting variation on the usual 800 points. I usually have the rounds run 3 hours.

Changing the table size can be fun, too, also for the variety. A lot depends on what you are trying to encourage with the tournament. As an example, 650 points on a regular 6x4 table pretty much demands CV and LH armies, and it gives those armies all the room they need to zoom around.

I have never limited the number of generals, and don't think there is any need to do it. Someone who takes 4 generals at 650 points will either use them very well or, well, won't ever do that again.

Down under we are having a spate of 650 point tournaments in either 2.5 (fast Kiwis) or 3.5 hours (slow Ozzies). No max on generals although typically there are 3 and often 4 generals. Two wags recently went for just 1 (IC) and 2 generals (TC and FC for flank march).

Why limit generals 650 points is a limit enought I have played in most if not all 650 points and never seen anyone take more than 3 but it should be down to the player IMO.
