Demjansk Pocket Scenario

Post by LostAgain »

I ran into a few rather unique problems in this scenario;

I played on the colonel level, and I am impressed, there are some scenarios that are very tough to win even a minor victory in so, kudos.

1. The first problem I noticed was that I could upgrade some of the equipment that is specific to this particular scenario, but not all. Some of the Pak 38's could not be upgraded, while others could. The upgrade button simply did not become active for 3 of them. I noticed this as I was attempting to purchase transport for one of them.

2. The enemy AA would completely ignore my aircraft that had attacked aircraft on or in close proximity to their airstrips. If I attacked a ground unit it was a different story, as soon as the AI's turn commenced my planes would be in trouble, but if I went strictly air to air I could literally attack an enemy plane on top of an AA unit without worry that it would be attacked by the AI on it's turn.

3. Late in the game when I lost a tank and attempted to draw one out of my reserves it wouldn't allow it. At first I thought it wasn't allowing me to draw any replacements at all, but I could draw infantry units for whatever reason. Infantry units were the ONLY units that I could use to replace anything. Everything else wouldn't work.

4. On top of the problem I described in #3, I discovered that I could put more reserve units in than I lost, but again, only infantry, no other units worked. The game got generous at this point and allowed me to replace one tank with three infantry units, but here's where it gets really strange...after I placed the first unit I noticed that the map still showed spaces for me to place another unit, so I experimented. I could place another two units for a total of three, provided that the last two were the elite SE infantry! The initial unit could be basic infantry, but the other two it would allow HAD to be elite SE units or the game acted normally, (at least as far as the number of replacements was involved) ie: allowed only one replacement per one loss.

Demjansk Pocket is the last scenario, and up to that point everything worked perfectly. I was pleasantly surprised to note that the beta version allowed me to import my core force from '39 and '40 as this allowed some continuity of play! (Ok, I'm ready for '42 beta, let's go guys!)

4. Sounds like you had reached your unit slot limit. If you had one slot free you should be able to put anything down. SE units do not count against the slot limit (one of their biggest advantages) and so you could put 2 of them down.

I didn't know about the SE units not counting against your unit total (makes perfect sense once you told me) but I still can't agree with you. The ONLY units that I was allowed to use as replacements were infantry. I had lost a tank and was trying to replace it with another but the scenario wouldn't let me. As far as the two extra SE units are concerned, you've certainly identified the reason for that, but I wanted to replace one unit initially with another of the same category and could not. If I was over limit I wouldn't have been able to place anything on the map, but as I was replacing an item I still cannot fathom why I was restricted in what I could use? It had never occurred prior to that. In reflection though, I can't help but wonder how many times I've shot myself in the foot by leaving SE units in reserve up until now? DOH!
