ZOC

Post by Crender »

Can anyone explain how Zones of Control work? Are they different for different units (eg recon)?

I have searched for an answer but not found anything.

Thanks

Any land unit exerts a zone of control to the six hexes around it. So if you have 2 units with a gap of 1 hex (or even 2 hexes) between them, enemy units cannot drive through the gap into the rear lines unless they push your units aside. If you accidently walk into an enemies zoc who you were not previously aware of you are stopped and cannot move back. You can also stop an enemy from escaping by driving units on each side of it (eg its top and bottom hexes). When it tries to drive away its still in zoc and can only move back 1 hex.
The exception to this is recon vehicles. They can be put down and move again, so they can drive into someones zoc and either pull back or push through but they won't get far. Every time you move, put them down and pick them up again they lose some movement points (i think about half). Naval units exert zoc on each other in much the same way but air units do not, you can fly right past an enemy plane and it can't stop you.

An excellent summary. The ZOC of air units can be activated by a setting in the gamerules.pzdat but it is Off by default.
