As i understood it there are no interactions whatsover.

But you can move your DLC core units from DLC to DLC (DLC 39 -> DLC 40 for example)

Would it not be interesting if the DLC could at, some point, branch into the main campagin at the major battle as presented in the main campagin?

I guess that's difficult because :

a) experience is handled differently in the DLC (it's capped in each DLC; 2 stars in '39, 3 stars in '40)

b) The AI is handled quite differently in the DLCs (as i understand it DLCs are rather more difficult on the woole), so your DLC core troops
might not mix well into a "vanilla campaign".

Hmm...interesting points but I would think that the caps could be standardized and the AI re-set for vertical continuity relatively eaisly

This is true, and it works like this:

Step1
Start a new game.

Step2
Play a DLC Campaign.

Step3
Finish the DLC campaign.

Step4
Start a new game again.

Step5
Select the next DLC campaign.

Step6
Answer this new prompt:

Step7
Select exactly which core you would like to import (this screen only appears if you have multiple cores saved)

Step8
Resume playing:

Very good and many thanks--BTW the fourth option on the screen of step 2 seems quite interesting--any comments?

That's what a user made, custom campaign looks like now, under the new 1.04 system.

Previously, anyone making custom campaigns had to 'overwrite' one of the existing stock campaigns.

The details, are in these threads:
