Belive me you are a lucky one, i loose 90 % of the onlinegames. But it doesnt matters to me, playing is important not win (for me).stockwellpete wrote:You are very kind, Micha, thanks very much. Do you know what the worst thing is though? Sometimes I invite players to try out my new scenarios and they don't let me win!Micha wrote:Hello, i have to thank you for all you did here.I just don't know what the world is coming to.

I think that it is worth pointing out here that designing scenarios for Field of Glory is an awful lot of fun in its own right. You get the chance to turn your interest in and understanding of historical events into a dynamic creation which you can then use to explore the potential outcomes, and share your enjoyment of it with others around the world over the net.
Make all those history books on your shelves come alive, ( its also a very good excuse to buy new ones) use OCR software to scan in and to capture all those unique leader names, and/or employ translation software to tweak unit titles to make them sound more authentic. (The free Google site is very good for this and it includes languages such as Latin) one of the strong points of the scenario editor is that you can setup your unit titles in Microsoft Word and then copy and paste them straight into the "unit names" box in the unit editor. its a pity you cannot do this for the scenario description as of yet, but never mind.
Also since our understanding of military history is an ongoing journey rather than a destination there are many right ways of doing things and new avenues to explore keep opening up. For example the very first scenario I designed for field of glory and the first one to be included in an expansion module was the Arthurian battle of Mons Badonicus which the sources I used set 517AD. Employing a different chronology “JMS” did another (larger) study of the battle as part of is Arthurian Battle Cycle” series, according to the sources for which the battle took place in 418 AD.
While on Holliday in Crete earlier this year I finally managed to get round to reading the relatively recently published (2008) Arthur and the Fall of Roman Britain: A Narrative History for Fifth Century Britain by Edwin Pace. (certainly one for hinting to the other half about appearing in the Christmas stocking) Pace has completely reworked the chronology (and much else) of British History in the 5th Century AD drawing on A fresh analysis of the earliest sources for the period such as Bede, Gildas and Nennius.
Not only does he have the battle taking place in 450 AD but has it being fought against the Picts & Irish rather than the Saxons, and that’s not the half of it, the book makes a closely argued case for Arthur and Vortigern (the latter usually cast as the billon of the piece who invited the Saxons in) as being one and the same person. And to top it off he thinks that the Saxons were at Mons Badonicus but in Arthurs army. Anybody feel a third remake of the battle coming on ? (the book has ideas for several others)
Scenario design for Field of Glory gives you the opportunity to take historical hypotheses such as those put forward in this and other books and experiment with him directly on a virtual wargames table, have a go I'm sure you would enjoy it.
