OT: They shouldn't be allowed to ruin some franchises

PC : Turn based WW2 goodness in the mold of Panzer General. This promises to be a true classic!

Panzer Corps, is clearly a good example, of how you can grab an old great game and improve it.
I've also good feelings for Legend of Grimrock a Dungeon Master inspired dungeon crawler and for Xenonauts the next hopefully "UFO: Enemy Unknown".

Now some bad examples. Syndicate 3 which is being turned into a FPS. And now this MechWarrior online thingy, just makes me want to cry.

Yea I saw that Xenonauts game when TotalBiscuit did a piece on it. I'm hoping to get TotalBiscuit to do a bit on Panzer Corps, actually! He's got a pretty good viewer base, and he covers a good variety of games.

It's 'remakes' like this that really make me cringe. Turning X-Com into an FPS? Really?

And personally, I don't really consider MechWarrior to be BattleTech. MechWarrior is MechWarrior, and BattleTech is BattleTech.

So that new MechWarrior game coming out is... nice to see the franchise coming back I guess, but it's only the MechWarrior franchise. :)

This way, you can play in your couch with a joypad in a hand and a slice of pizza in the other.
Next step: make it compatible with Xbox Kinect.

You know what? If they made games like World of Warcraft or FPSes playable through devices like Kinect, obesity in American would disappear overnight.
Maybe a slight exaggeration there, but I think you know what I mean.

And personally, I think it would be pretty amazing for strategy games to someday move to this realm.

Imagine playing a strategy game on devices like these?

MechWarrior Online not 'Pay-2-Win'
...
The developer promises that the F2P model will enable live metrics, iterating updates quickly, and easily testing new content with players.
"I'm not going to lie, some things can and will allow you to acquire items faster, or even instantly with real cash," creative director Bryan Ekman confessed in a blog post. However, he insisted, buying better gear will not necessarily bring an advantage.
"We're doing away with the arms race and making BattleMechs of all shapes and sizes have a purpose and role on the battlefield," Ekman said. Scout or commander, rich or poor, in theory you can have a hoot no matter what you're piloting.
And, of course, there's the obvious benefit of not having to buy a game you may turn out not to play that much.

2k made me cry silently indeed ... But it's not only the "reboot", it's the justification for it.

Talk about shooting in the foot of their own Civ V team ...

I loved the first 2 X-COM games ...

Kharak being destroyed and this music playing was probably one of the most 'emotional' experiences a game has ever given to me.

Homeworld had some absolutely amazing mods too, but... that game lacked intimacy.
Not much in the way of 'upgrades' or crews or captions or personalities or heroes to get attached to. Each ship was pretty much 'just another ship'

Ground Control was pretty neat, and very Mechcommander-esque. I much prefer that style of RTS. Instead of just massing gigantic armies and spamming them into combat until your enemy is overwhelmed, I prefer the more 'squad' orientated game. You start with your small, but elite forces, you can't really get MORE of them, you have to work with what you have.

Jagged Alliance 2 (and the mods for that game) were AMAZING.

Considering the absolute amazingness of Master Of Orion 2... I can't believe what happened to Master of Orion 3. Not even mods could fix that disaster.

There's always FreeOrion if you don't mind waiting more a couple of years, until it's fully finished.

Sure, but had some memorable missions. Remember the one in the junkyard?

I really love this thread!
And thanks for the Info on Xenonauts, that game looks really great.
I can remember some exciting rainy days fighting the aliens that want to invade the earth ^^
And Homeworld in Multiplayer with 4 players sitting at one big table was also great fun.
I hope to get more of those good remakes! Graphics is not all!
