Touch of Old-Time

Post by Zhivago »

Being an old-time Panzer General fan, I love Panzer Corps. Has anyone been able to snag some of the scenarios that were on the old TEN or Mplayer websites? Anyone remember the old Scotland 1946 scenario on Mplayer?

Some of my Panzer Corps wish-list items:

I would like to see a Stalingrad battle scenario for Panzer Corps modeled after the Panzer General Sevastopol scenario that reflects the city fighting.

I would also love to see a Panzer Corps add-on with tons of experimental German weapons introduced. How about the Amerika Bomber program? The Junkers EF-132? The E-100 superheavy tank? The Landkreuzer P-1500 Monster? The Kugelpanzer? The Panther II? These would be great fun.

I would also like to see an East-Front dedicated campaign with 50+ scenarios from Barbarossa to the fall of Berlin.

Any plans in the works for a Pacific General style re-make?

Thanks for bringing back a great old game and improving on it!

Welcome to Panzer Corps!

From what I can share, our current development plan actually fits your wish list pretty closely.

Stalingrad in detail is something a lot of people have expressed a desire to see, and we actually have some prototype content that explores significant urban encounters. I can't talk about the content of the DLC packs yet, but the multiplayer map Urban Warfare is our prototype map for... urban warfare. :)
There are a few issues that will be important to address and some artistic polish may be required for the best effect, but that's all part of the process.

For a high tech addon, I don't believe any such official content is planned at this time, but the custom community may have you covered in this department. ;)

The initial plan for the DLC campaigns is what you describe:
Ultimately, several other extra content packs will combine together to create a full Grand Campaign from 1939 to 1945 which will have around 70 scenarios!
As for future West Front, Afrika, or even Pacific content though, I do not have anything I can say at this point in time.

No worries, you have lots of scenarios to play and a lot more are to come.

See the upcoming DLCs and what Kerensky said, right now the plan seems to be to work chronologically towards a 1939-1945 Grand Campaign split into several Campaigns like the upcoming 39, 40 etc. Campaign DLCs. So the late war experimental units might take a while to make it into the game, if they make it at all. But there is lots of modding going on, take a look.

The Panzer Corps engine can be easily adapted to any wartime conflict from any time period. If I were the Lordz/Slitherine boss, I would milk the engine and concept for all it was worth. I would release about 10 more WW2 European/Africa expansion packs, and then delve into the Pacific theater. Next Korea...Vietnam...Middle East...World War One, the Civil War. If the gameplay was up to par with Panzer Corps, I know I would buy everything you put out. The only two games I have really cared about in the last 20 years before Panzer Corps was released was Panzer General (one and two) and the Civilization series. Age of Empires was okay too.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the vote of confidence. :D

Have you tried the two new DLC campaigns yet? I highly recommend them, a lot of our players have expressed their approval for them. And the sooner you get started, the sooner you'll be ready for when DLC 1941 rolls around! :D

I bought them last Friday (hard copies for both too). I am enjoying both scenarios very much. Will we see the 1941 expansion before the end of the year?

This is interesting.

One (quite major) issue with the Urban Warfare map: Trenches/Fortifications are much more effective if not adjacent to open ground. Have a look at the Police Station (again, in the Urban Warfare mp map) - it's a city block "defended by" fortification hexes.

But what you ideally want to do is lure enemy armor into close terrain - only then will you be able to take them (remember, this map is a late-war map with almost all units available) out using cheap units (infantry etc).

I am not discussing reality or real-looking maps here. I'm just stating fact: fortifications in PC are much more effective if at least two hexes deep, meaning that enemy armor can't just attack defenders from "safe" ground. Since this is how the game operates (again, not even thinking about real geography) it would feel satisfactory if this was how the maps were designed.

For a truly harrowing siege experience, I will assume the presence of 2+ hexes deep fortifications (and city hexes and other close terrain) with no "streets" of clear terrain in-between.

I hope that the Panzer Corps designers find a way to incorporate Pavlov's House in the Stalingrad scenario. It has already been featured in several other WW II games, like Call of Duty, Red Orchestra, and Close Combat III.
