El Condoro's DLC GC 41 Beta 1

Post by El_Condoro »

Field Marshall level

Belgrade

15/18 DV
Ended with 2829 prestige

- bought 2x Stukas, nothing else
- no losses
- awarded an SE Infantry unit

This was a lot of fun but I wonder if the prestige is too high. It might be that I've made a mistake by not buying much due to lost experience that may be useful later on. I think the PzC way of allowing all cities to be supply centres may become a problem as the GC goes along - I will hoard my prestige and spawn a whole army near the front when needed. :) This too may be an error of judgment - we'll see. :)

Metaxis Line

Well, that wasn't very pleasant! Did the Greeks really have that many tanks? :)

11/14 DV
Losses! 2x Pz IVs cut down in the prime of their lives! The Bulgarians also suffered heavily but their pride would not allow them to divulge actual losses but German observers estimate - everything gone.
Started next scenario (decided to go with Crete airborne) with 1438.

I have been only using elite replacements, which is why my prestige is dropping alarmingly. Might need to cut back on them in coming scenarios.

Lots of fun again. I'm not a big campaign player but I am enjoying this a lot.

Crete

Wow! OK, I didn't lose any units (apart from the Italian DDs, which were always going to die) but that was the closest I have come to utter disaster in a scenario yet. Nearly lost my SE Pz IV and a number of other units were brought to 2 points but heroically held out.

8/15 DV
365 prestige remained - that's how tight it was. I had to go hunting for flags at points in the scenario just to keep units alive.

When the Royal Navy got in range all my units were like fish in a barrel. The only thing that could stop them was my trusty D0-117 which did 5-8 points of damage with every hit. Nice!

Loved this scenario and felt the adrenalin kick in as disaster loomed and the relief as it was swept away. :)

Minsk41

Another very hard fought victory. I wasn't sure if I would even be able to take Minsk with all the Russian tanks, including the behemoth KV-II, loitering around the place.

17/20 DV
40 prestige remaining!

A captured T-34/40 (r)!!! Woohooo!

I bought a few recons for the task of taking forward objectives quickly. I took most of the airfields before the Soviet counter but there were still plenty of planes in the air, including some very effective bombers.

Smolensk

OK, time to 'fess up - it took me 3 attempts to get a DV here! The first attempt was a complete disaster as I tried to race across the map; the second time was much better but I missed taking Smolensk in time; the third attempt was completely successful without any losses.

20/21 DV
528 pp remaining

I couldn't take Krasny with its 20 strength INF and surrounding 15 strength outriders!

Great challenge. I enjoyed working through better strategies to succeed. Mobile ART seems to be a real key.

I saw Kerensky was asking about the Kiev route so I elected to go that way and meet the FM's saucy secretary (well, she may also be a real Brunhilde, but my imagination doesn't work that way!)

Zhitomir

DV with a couple of turns to spare.

Quite a core-killer for me. Lost 4x INF, 1x StuG, 1x PzIII, 1x Pz IV, 1x 231 AC.
I am going to power on, though, and see if having a weak core will ultimately see them grind to a halt as the campaign progresses.
About 250 pp from memory left.

Are you still going all out elite only reinforcements?

Be an interesting test, to see if you can continue on the campaign by getting marginal victories, or if your chances for even getting marginals is completely impossible with the amount of damage you've sustained.

No - not possible :( The wins have been harder and harder to come by, so I have tried to use elite for air and ART and SE units. Everything else is stuck with the green reinforcements.

Zhurivka
(Second attempt - first one a disaster!)

15/18 DV (could see Russians coming from the east and wanted to finish it off before they slaughtered my weakened forces)
Losses: 2x Aux Bridging, 1x 231, 1x PzIV, 1x pionere, 1x wehrmacht.

Starting next scenario with 1931 pp.

The wins have been harder and harder to come by, so I have tried to use elite for air and ART and SE units.
I found this to be the case for me as well. I limited my elite replacements for select units through the first few Barbarossa scenarios. In that fashion, I built up a "core" within my core, as it were.
