Infantry types' special abilities

Post by the_iron_duke »

Hi, could someone please fill in/amend the special abilities of the infantry units. This is what I've gathered so far:

Wehrmacht - no special ability
Grenadier - no special ability, just different stats
Fallschirmjager - can make paradrops
Gebirgsjager - not sure, better fighting ability in mountain hexes?
Pioniere - don't know
Bruckenpioniere - acts as a bridge when on river hexes allowing other units to cross
Kavallerie - don't know

Thanks. Haven't found this information elsewhere.

Fallschirmjäger have a fortkiller trait, making them more effective against strongholds and such
Pioniere have the same trait and also ignore the entrenchment level of a unit when attacking it
Gebirgsjäger have no special ability, they just have a different movement type and different stats
Kavallerie have no special ability, they just have a different movement type and different stats

Take a look at this thread:

And remember there's a "Common Questions" sticky thread, with some useful info that is worth to check:

Thanks for the links. In one it says of the traits working (for infantry):
El_Condoro wrote: Traits which are actually working in 1.0 are:
- meng - military engineer, ignores entrenchment
- beng - bridge engineer
- para - paratrooper
- fortkiller - bonus against structures
It seems pioneer units get the "meng" bonus and perhaps the "fortkiller" bonus (which the paratroopers also appear to get). The link also says:
El_Condoro wrote:
"alpine" trait was supposed to give mountain units some advantage in mountains terrain, but it is not used. Their movement advantage is expressed with a special alpine movement type.
So, I think the gebirgsjager only receive a movement bonus in hills and mountains and perhaps not any combat bonus.

Gebirgsjager can always move three. Even in Mud, snow, thick forest.

If they're not equipped with trucks!

Once equipped with early half-tracks they should be able to move 3 in most conditions.
