DLC 1941 Starting Core

Post by Kerensky »

You may notice it starts with an SE unit, a ton of prestige, and a fairly well experienced/overstrength starting force.

How are you feelings about this? I know a lot of people felt that DLC 1940 starting core was underpowered compared to a core brought in from 1939.

So this time, I based the new 1941 core on a few examples of people's 1940 cores.

If anyone has a 1940 core brought into 1941, how does the comparison feel?

Haven't brought a 1940 core into the DLC, but it is a very good core to start with. Quite some variety, useful units and the StuG IIIB was also surprisingly useful as accompanying artillery. Prevented lots of counter attacks, I might get a second. I can imagine a player core to have more Stukas but this is a very nice and solid core to start with. There needs to be room for improvement and customization so I think this is really fun core to start with. I really liked the Panzer IVE to begin with, do we get them in the 40 DLC already or will they be upgraded right at the start?

I enjoyed the scenario but, as I say in my report, I wonder if the abundance of prestige might be an issue later. Combined with Panzer Corp's allowing any city to become a supply centre, it may allow spawning of whole armies close to the front, which is unrealistic (I know the whole game is to an extent!). That said, it was a lot of fun, which is the objective of it all.

I was quite pleased! My initial thoughts were actually something like "Oooh, this is a pretty nice, well-balanced core. i don't know if I could have made much of a better core myself." I was actually quite struck by the generosity of your starting force. I think it is a good move for players wanting to start off with Barbarossa for whatever reason. If the prestgie gets to be a problem, i will let you know, but it doesn't seem to be an unreasonably large amount. I think a prudent player could easily have a comparable amount saved up by this point by playing through the earlier campaigns.

Let's see if Barbarossa and Russia in general manage to drain our Prestige. I agree that the early scenarios are too generous with Prestige. They are not that difficult as intended and the supplied core and imported core can handle them easily, so I think some Prestige cuts would be appropriate.
