Expansions

The modified rule for expansion now states that expansions must happen before the advance (IMO a good thing as it prevents quite a bit of cheese). This does however introduce a possible issue in that a BG with other BG's either side of it can't expand as if it does the expanded bases end up on top of the BG's to either side.

When expanding at the start of a move does there have to be space for the expansion to occur?

Similarly if a BG is on the table edge and wheels intable can it expand on the flank that used to he on the table edge? If the expansion happens before the move the BG would go off table.

Yes

Therefore it can't expand on that side.

Fair enough, that is what the rules say. I just wanted to confirm it was intended.
