Yarmouk - 636

Post by Old_Warrior »

I am working on this scenario and am looking for the Armenian army units that would have fought with the Byzantines. Just use the Byzantine list or should I use units from another list and if so which ones?

The Byzantine army of this campaign:

A polyglot force composed of Greeks, Armenians, Copts, Christian and pagan Arabs, Slavs, Goths, and even Persian defectors, the East Roman army was partially a standing force, partially a mercenary unit.

The Arabs I can find. Not sure which list to use for the Slavs. South Slavs? Greeks - would they be Byzantine units?

Four divisions basically.

Left Flank: Ghanassid Arabs

Left Center: the army of Dairjan and the Armenian army of Vahan, both under the overall command of Dairjan - this was the largest contingent.

Right Center: Quanteer & Slavs

Right Flank: Gregory & Byzantines

Cavalry was placed behind the four groups.

For the Byzantines - I am using the Maurikian list. Neither list mentions Armenian allies. Was this because they were part of the empire?

The Arab army is pretty straightforward.
