Looking for a teacher

Post by Khayyin »

Hi,

I just bought FoG Digital an Storm of Arrows. I played a few games against the AI and lost most of them. Then I started playing online and i got beaten to death, it wasn't funny. Most of the time I don't know what to do.

So if there is someone who could help me a little bit and want to play, just say a word.

Hello Khayyin,

I can play on Sunday. Which SOA army would you like to be? I suggest 350pts so it isn't too big for you to handle. Try and pick a balanced army - at least 2 leaders and a mixture of the other main troop types. I will pick a historical opponent with a similar balance.

Ok. But there are so much armies so is hard to choose from. :) (I bought two other expansion packs)

I did choose: 350 P of gallic (early Hill tribes)

and early Principate Roman.

I am strictly medieval these days, Khayyin - and I only replied because you indicated SOA. So you can pick one those armies - Anglo Irish (later) v Medieval Irish (later) is always good fun - or you can wait and see if someone else wants to play ancient warfare with you.

Medieval French is fine - I will pick an English army, password can be "agincourt". I am on a break at work now, so I will post challenge on the system this evening.

Thanks a lot for your help. It really was good and helpful. I just need more games and experience to really get into it.

It was a very enjoyable game. Give it a couple of weeks and we can have another game if you want to. I would just say that it is probably a bit easier to learn the game if you restrict yourself to just three or four armies at first. Get to know them quite well and check out some of the variations possible (allies maybe) - then once you start to feel that you are getting to grips with the game you can experiment a bit more widely with some different armies.

As a newcomer myself, I think this is very good advice. A few simple and efficient armies. I made the mistake of trying armies with lots of exotic units (Byzantines, HYW English ... ) wheras, a month into playing the game, I'm now starting to get wins with armies like Slavs and Lombards, chosing only 4-5 troop types in total.

Yet to win with my Welsh, though. ;-) But surely a matter of time ...
