Narvik (beta2 - scenario 11)

Post by charonjr »

Narvik - Field Marshal - previous DV

Starting with 1580 prestige, down to 660 after elite reinforcements.

By turn 7 Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Hipper were in range of Narvik, together with 2 Ju88s, 2 Ju87s and 2 Bf109s it was essentially game over, especially when the AAA was disabled by artillery and taken out by a Stuka.

I could have had a DV by turn 8/18, but decided to keep playing for XP/kills.

Finished at 18/18 with 1580 prestige.

While the saefight was a bit more of a challenge I still think that some additional defenders on the way to Narvik would be good. In addition it would be nice if there was some real pressure on the aux units - the way it currently is they are too much of a help. While I dont think that a formal "rescue mission" is called for it would be nice if you still could feel like the cavallery saving them instead of them being able to hit the defenders as hard as they do.

I agree the Paratroopers were historically in peril but here they are rather great support forces already in place for the assault on Narvik.

Colonel level.

This time sinking the carrier took longer than in the 1st beta. Probably because i didn't buy a level bomber and other enemy ships were shielding it off from my battleships.
Land progress towards Narvik went as fast as before and when you knock out the AA, than victory comes quick. The enemy destroyers act like little buggers, prefering to attack my artillery before anything else. Straumsnes was just for the taking because that infantry left the hex to attack my paratroopers. It would have been a little harder if it would have stayed put. I also disbanded one SE unit, hoping i will get armour in the next mission. I finished this scenario on turn 12/18 and i have 1460 PP.

Now i can go to Eben-Emael with 4 tanks, 4 art, 1 AT, 3 Bf109e, 2 JU87B and the rest is infantry. I prefer to get experienced fighters as quick as possible, and if possible twice the amount of bombers. Althou there is no grand campaign 41 yet, those fighters will be badly needed.
In my opinion the GC sofar, Poland and Norway...great great great :).

I think you got this one just right in beta 2. The Royal Navy kicked my ass pretty good. I didn't have any strategic bombers so I could purposely see how the Kriegsmarine fares on it's own this time, and my ships did sink the glorious but my capital ships were beat all to hell. All of my other ships were at the bottom of the ocean. Very fun scenario and you did a great job of making this one nicely balanced. The only thing I could say is maybe subtract one or two turns from the timer. I beat it decisively with about five turns left.

Great scenario to crown the glorious 39 campaign. A good and balanced naval battle (well, I did cheat by using 2 strategic bombers, although bad weather grounded them most of the time), a diverse scenario with naval/ground/air elements present (I did actually *fight* for the first time for the skies), a decently fortified multi hexed town at the end, auxiliary units in advance and isolated position to spice things up. Pitch perfect in its balanced use of every gameplay element, like the original Norway map.
