Lillehammer (beta2 - scenario 10)

Post by charonjr »

Lillehammer - Field Marshal - previous DV

Disbanded one of my elite infantries during the last turn of Oslo, but no luck in getting a replacement. Starting with 2330 prestige, down to 1800 after replacements and upgrading my recon to an 8 wheel and 800 after upgrading my trucks to halftracks. Finally I bought another Bf109 leaving me with 390 prestige.

The infantry leaving their defensive positions in Gjevik jsut to attack my 8wheeler looks like no smart move to me.

By turn 8/18 I could have won a DV, but decided to go for some additional XP and the last remaining town.

The AI kept spawning tons of units around Segalstadt which is nice in a way since it helps with my XP, but I think it would have been better if the AI would have spawned them earlier when they actually might have made a difference.

In the end DV at 18/18 with 1080 prestige and a scenario that felt way too easy. As mentioned before, having the AI spawn those units it did at turns 9+ would be much better IMO.

Colonel level.

Lillehammer is what tactics are concearned, more or less similar to Oslo (2 battlegroups on either side of the fjord). Ofcourse there are differences, the difficulty and the weather for instance.
On turn 4 it was snowing for the first time, so it was a good idea to resupply all units. On turn 5 i got a nasty Nor mnt counter-attack on the left, leaving my recon with 2 HP left.
For the reminder of the scenario, the wisest thing to do is to advance slowly with artillery support right behind. On turn 8 i sneaked 2 pz units across the lake east of Lillehammer, and could attack it from the rear blasting that enemy art piece to oblivion. I sticked one armour unit to Lillehammer and one to Follebu to prevent AI to place new units there.
The rest of the army caught up slowly and with air support i quickly gained control of the battlefield. My 4 artillery units had a hell of a time blasting away opposition.
I like this scenario and if you take it slow and cautiously - weather mostly prevents a good sight of what lays ahead - you will prevail without huge casualties.
I finished in 13/18 turns and 1537 PP. I guess i will need about 400 PP for reinforcements in the next mission.
I don't know what other players think but this campaign has a huge re-playability score Smile.

All of the Norwegian battles are such good fun. I do agree that Lillehammer and Oslo (haven't played beta 2 Narvik yet) feel a bit too easy. I am afraid to recommend increasing the difficulty since the scenarios are so enjoyable as they are. I also got a decisive victory on turn 13. A couple more British units might help this one out but even as they are, they are excellent.

Again, a good little scenario. Scenario is easy (probably the easiest so far), but it is the first scenario in snowy weather, so it works nicely as a "tutorial" for new players, as the heavier british defenses/counterattacks north of the map come into action just when supply problems are becoming serious. Which can be a good (and gentle) introduction to what will happen a couple years later ...

Several towns where labelled "norwegian towns", which is a bit weird. If there are no real towns at those places but those hexes are necessary for game balance purposes, may I suggest renaming them to something like norwegian fortified area or something ?
