Hi all. I'm relatively new to strategy gaming, but I've been playing Panzer Corp now for about a month and love it!! I'm interested in expanding my horizons and wanted to see what suggestions you might have for someone between the novice and intermediate level. I've listed the games below I've been looking at . I realize it's a mix between operational and tactical. What I'd like to know is if any of the games I've listed are aweful or are worth learning. Thank you in advance. Looking forward to everyone's ideas and suggestions.
Gary Grigsby's War Between the States (Grand Strategy)
WW2: Time of Wrath (Grand Strategy)
Commander - Europe at War Gold (Grand Strategy)
Close Combat - Last Stand Arnhem (Tactical)
I need game suggestions

You will find that Commander Europe at War is a nice take on grand strategy if you like the diplomatic and research angle of war as well as the more combat like action as well. But it might be a lot if you still feel like the beginner.
Close Combat gives a great experience, and in real time in a way that is not common for real time in that it is not too much for the limitations of being human. But a lot likely would agree, that Close Combat mainly shines against a human adversary.
You list does not have Battle Academy on it, and likely should. Damned great game.

Thank you DSW! You do bring up a good point that I should mention. I'm pretty comfortable with strategy games that have the combat aspect to it. I think now I'm ready to dig a little deeper into that aspect (like having to consider supply lines and such) and sprinkle in some research, diplomacy and maybe even some economic cosideration. I tried and didn't like the Hearts of Iron series. That was way too much detail and not very intuitive.
Actually, yes, Battle Academy is on my list of games to pick up. Having read the reveiws and other peoples comments I think I mentally put that into the category of Panzer Command.
The other game I've been looking into is "Gary Grigsby's War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945"

My bad,....I said Panzer Command, but meant Panzer Corp. Still, I love Panzer Corp and want to also get Panzer Command-Ostfront as well as Battle Academy. Too many games and not enough time!
Has anyone played ""Gary Grigsby's War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945"? Seems daunting, but I'm starting to think it's time for me to just jump in and learn one of these grand, indepth strategy games.

Gary's War in the East hmm, I have it, and thus I know, it is THE pinnacle of wargaming, the mega of monster games, nothing you buy will be more massive more daunting. It is the deepest of the deep end, the opposite end of the scale from a beginner title
Hope I am being sufficiently clear here
And it also maxes out my computer, a machine that can actually run games normally considered resource hogs too.
Remember it is a bad habit of a lot of wargamers, to immediately shill their favourite games the moment someone asks for suggestions regardless of whether you said you were a novice.
Currently the better choice on grand strategy for WW2 is likely the now older title called Strategic Command from Battlefront. The first one do NOT think I am promoting the spin offs. The first game was very straight forward, easy as hell to learn and play and had one of the simplest interfaces in our hobby. Commander Europe at War though, is a more polished design, and only fractionally more complicated.
I have WW2: Time of Wrath, but I am unsure it would win out in a contest for your attention against Battle Academy which is damned easy to learn and damned hard to win vs another human (which is part of the fun isn't it?).
