Constant crashing while in multiplayer games

Post by rexhurley »

Hi I recently upgraded my pc and ran FOG 1.6 with SOA, IF fine then upgraded and got SS, ROR and EE since then have constant problems with being in game and the game completely freezing and hanging my whole rig with no ctl+alt+del or alt+tab options available only resort is turning the PC off at the wall and strating again.

I thought 1.61 would fix it as did a vid river update fix lasted two days and its back again every time I play.

System specs

Intel I7-2600k @ 3.4GHZ (Sandy bridge)
8 GM RAM (Sandy Bridge)
WIN 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP 1
ATI Radeon 6950 Graphics

Cheers Rex

FOG 1.6 SOA and IF ran fine on my old dog I7 Quad machine with a Nvidia GTX260 card

Everything else I play runs sweet as :)

Do you get an error pop up - if so let usk now the error.

Try updating your drivers again. If this fixed it and then it stopped it might be a driver related issue.

Hi Iain,

no error pop up I used to get that occassioanlly on my old machine but these ones are a total lock out while a unti is moving or shooting mid turn so say it strats changing hex or an arrow goes out and hit the hit numbers float up and freeze.

Checked AMD and drivers are up to date no issues there

Oh and sorry forgot to mention that after the last series of problem and temp repair was associated with launching from the main .exe away from the launcher persee as I read in another post that was a possible fix...was for a few days but now issue has now returned unfortunately for some reason

A reminder this issue is not resolved admin. I have had two months offf playing (most frustrating!) and just entered a game v Finir and the same issue of working through a turn and the game freezing and completely locking my pc has returned. I also tried single player withe battle between the ottoman Turks and Mamelukes in 1480 something (sorry cant remember the name of it) and it does it there as well.

Is it a possible conflict with my Radeon 6950 card?

Some form of answer would be most appreciated, regards Rex

Thinking about this a bit further could there be a possibility of a Direct X issue?? ALthough I suppose if thatg was the case almost all players with DX11 would be experiencing the same problem.

Hi Rex! I do lots of IT support. Have you tried to run a memory diagnostic (like memtest86)? Let it run overnight if you can. I've seen more bad memory since it is common to have so much RAM in machines now. Usually if you can't ctl-alt-del (also check to see if you hit numlock does the keyboard light come on) it is a hardware problem. You can also try a stress test using Prime95 which will also peg the CPU.

Good luck!

Hi Todd,

FOG D is the only game I'm having issues with :( (hung four times today trying to do a turn with Finir) and have now had the machine for two months and would have thought other games would be an issue to but keen to try anything.

Anyways can you flick me some suggestions to my normal email (rexhurley@paradise.net.nz) and I'll have a crack at them later in the week.

Thanks for the help

Hey mate I tried to do the turn again tonight and yet another hang of the machine and nope no activation of the numlock key while hung, bugger. So the question now I suppose is how many other players have Radeon 6950 cards who maybe having issues??

Cheers

Have you run a check on your disk with chkdsk or similar? It could be that you have a file with a marginally bad block in which case uninstalling and reinstalling might solve the problem.

Sorry to hear you're having these crashes/freezes. The first step in us fixing any crash is to reproduce the crash at our end. Unfortunately, in this case we simply haven't yet been able to do that.

To help us get to the bottom of it, please can you get the freeware utility called MyEventViewer:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/my_event_viewer.html
(you need to scroll down to near the bottom of the page).

Then, when the crash happens, note the time of the crash. Open MyEventViewer, and scroll to that time, and the few seconds before it. Any Warning or Error events, particularly those that mention either FoG or the ATI drivers, could be relevant. (It can help to go to Options->Event type Filter and untick the ones that are only information or audit.)

If there are events that could be relevant, please copy and paste them here.

Also can you get another freeware utility called AppCrashView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html

You say what you experience is more a freeze than a crash, so it might be that no Windows Error Reporting information gets written. But if it is, it should show up as an entry in AppCrashView. Again, look out for anything that's related to either FoG or your ATI drivers. If you find anything, please copy and paste the report at the bottom here.
