Oslo (beta2 - scenario 9)

Post by charonjr »

Oslo - Field Marshal - previous DV

1840 prestige after replacements (elite) and 830 after upgrading my 3 Pz38s to PzIIIs, He111 to Ju88 in addition to buying another Ju88 and a Fallschirmjäger. And I got myself a PzIIIF (is Norway still the earliest point to get a tank instead of infantry?).

Fairly easy, even too easy IMO. DV at turn 10/14, but I fooled around a bit longer to get my less experienced troops some XP. In the end I finished at 14/14 with 1930 prestige. The Blücher was at 7HP, but never in any real danger to get sunk since the fortifications started to shoot at my units as soon as they were in range.

Colonel level.

With new equipment available, i finally upgraded the 2 PzIA to PzIIIF.

In my opinion the easiest mission of the campaign up till now. I landed troops on both sides and gave each group 2 artillery pieces. The aux Bf 110 i used to attack the closest fortress to the Blucher after i let it pound on that fortress, followed by the destroyer. After turn 2 the first fortress was history. The other fortresses i got rid off with my infantry with artillery support. On the other side of the fjord my troops advanced real quick with naval support and i reached oslo at the end of turn 7. On turn 8 Oslo was mine, after turn 9 i captured the rest north of Oslo.
A bit too easy mission but perhaps a breather before the harder missions in Norway. 9/14 DV and 1021 PP. Lost one aux paratrooper. I hope i can keep some PP in reserve for the missions in western europe.

Keep in mind that Oslo comes on the heels of Warsaw, which could be considered difficult, or Spoils of War, which is really difficult, especially on the harder difficulty modes.

The original Norway scenario was one of my favorites in the main campaign because of its orginality and diversity - it was quite different from the usual plodding from city objective to city objective. Even if the ground enemy troops were weak, you had to coordinate your fleets, troop transports, and paratroopers well in order to reach the northernmost objectives in time, so I was quite eager to begin this Oslo scenario.

Relaxing scenario after the hair pulling in spoils of war. Difficulty was low, but the map was enjoyable nonetheless. It is the first amphibious assault in the campaign for a new player, so it is nice for learning. As usual, a job well done as far as the map design is concerned, the Blucher situation add a sense of urgency to the whole operation, in a more realistic way than an abstract turn counter.

Many attacks from the Oscarsborg cannons dealt minimal damage, but one of them did 5 dmg. So the battleship felt appropriately in danger, but maybe due to the RNG. Bombing (taking damage with my Stukas) and paradropping allowed me to save the ship with 5hp left.
