For the casual strategy gamer?
Hi, all. I stumbled upon Panzer Corps via a Panzer General review over at gog.com. After looking at the Panzer Corps site I'm very interested, but have one important question before I would choose to actually buy the game:
How accessible is the game to newcomers/casual strategy gamers? Though I love turn-based strategy games, I rarely have more than a few hours a week to play. Subsequently, I have a hard time getting into any game that is so involved that it's best to be able to devote hours-long gaming sessions. Also, I play these games for the sheer enjoyment of it, not so much for being overly challenged, so I tend to knock the difficulty down a notch or two than most "hard-core" gamers would.
Whether I ultimately decide to actually purchase the game or not, it looks like The Lordz Games Studio have put together an amazing title!
Thanks for any advice!

Hi, Capella, stumbled onto this game via Google, can you believe it? Then read up on the reviews and took the plunge buying the game without even trying the demo. I've finished my first campaign at the lowest difficulty level as I had never played Panzer General and its sequels and just wanted to get a hang of the game mechanics. The game is great fun to a newbie/casual gamer as that's what I consider myself.
Just restarted another campaign now at the Field Marshall difficulty level so I guess you could say this game is addictive. I really enjoyed playing the recently complete Norway scenario at FM level; its very different from the Sgt level. Very intense, with several battles at the same time from North to South! There are a lot of veteran gamers here in this forum who are more than willing to help newbies, with gameplay advice, mod installation, etc.
Ah, yes, the mods. There are several custom mods made by gamers which you can install and which are free. Need a utility called GME to run it though, just read through the stickies for installation instructions. Welcome to the club!

hi
well, in my eyes, this game offers many different skill levels for everyone and a campaign, with increasing difficulty. The question is not wether this game is to hard (this game can be adapted to every skill lvl in my eyes) but wether you like the setting.
Concerning your time limit, it is turn based and even playing (only) one turn a day (and planing the next for the following day) is an enjoyable mean. The same holds for multi player, many people like fast games, but your are free to play as few as a turn per week, i think.
Best regards

If you need any advice/help, just post Capella. There are a great bunch of guys in this forum who are more than willing to help you. You won't regret buying it. You might find this link an interesting read while you are playing the game. Its in the AAR (After Action Reports) section. Horseman is playing at Colonel level though, just so you know:

I found it useful, especially when I first played Sealion 40. Generally, its a good idea to create a few mini-Task Forces' (tanks, infantry/grenadier/pioneer, artillery/SPGs supported by Stukas/Bombers) and send them to capture the various objectives. How fast you achieve the objectives by a set number of game turns will decide whether its a "Decisive Victory", "Marginal Victory" or a "Loss". If you get DV in a scenario, you earn more prestige, which you can use to repair, upgrade or buy new units. My advice, start at a lower difficulty level till you work out the mechanics of the game. Enjoy!

One of our main philosophies with Panzer Corps is to "let the player play the way they want to play".
There are five difficulty settings built into the game, and three more 'hardcore' modes that can be unlocked, for the players who wish to take their game to that level. From what you are saying, I would recommend starting out on Lieutenant mode. It's a step below the default setting of Colonel, and should serve as a good introductory mode that isn't too difficult but still should be quite fun. Once you enjoy some of the content and get a feel for the game, then I encourage you to increase the difficulty, and possibly try your hand at some multiplayer games too.
As for your time commitment, I think Panzer Corps and its turn based nature should fit you quite well. Even the multiplayer can be staggered into multiple smaller sessions, its all built right into Slitherine's PBEM server.
P.S. I hope that's not a House Liao related nick name.

I find my single player games take between 45 to 90mins.... so it would seem like a perfect game for your time budget.
Seems like there are plenty of mods coming out and soon and some offical DLC.
I'd never played PG either and read about PC at PC Gamer.
Great game! I hope some DLC (or mods) come out for the Pacific Theatre.

Hi capella 07, time it's not a problem for this game, you can save whenever you want and every scenery of the campaign takes no more than 2 hours.
I'd never played PG either but the mechanics is easy to learn. I think only the manual has some lacks, but read this thread plenty of useful suggestions: viewtopic.php?t=26367

Great game!
Hi Capella 07,
I have been playing this game for several months now and enjoying every bit of it. It should fit into your gaming requirements just fine. Great single player campaign with more content on the way and a super comunity of folks to play with on the PBE++ server based email system. It's quite easy to pick up on so you can start playing and having fun rather quickly! Look me up with a PM if you would care to play!
