Played the two demo missions tonight and enjoyed them immensely so went to buy the game from your store.
Placed order for the game + both expansions, paid via Paypal and waited patiently then noted it was rejected as I did not provide a valid phone number.
Could I just ask why on earth a valid phone number is required to purchase a digital download which I am paying for using my Paypal account ??
Is there some other way I can purchase the game without giving out my phone number as this is not something I'm willing to do just for the sake of a computer game and I think it would be a shame for you to lose the order over something so trivial.
Thanks
Would like to purchase

Unfortunately this is just part of the payment processing and not something we have any control over. however you try and buy you will need to provide a valid phone number. It wont accept the payments without this info. It is all about fraud prevention. The phone number will not be used for anything other than validating your payment. There have been 2 other instances where a phone number was used. This was when users placed orders and we were unable to contact them as the e-mails we sent them did not arrive. Their emails arrived here but somewhere along the way to them they got lost. We used the phone to contact them to make sure they could download their games.
The phone number is not used for anything else. We never sell details etc to third parties.

What it boils down to for me is that the internet is not secure so whilst you may not voluntarily share my phone number with anyone that certainly does not mean that at some point:
1. you might lose my data
2. someone could hack you and steal my data
3. you could get bought out and the new owners decided to share my data
etc
This is also why I always pay via Paypal when at all possible - I'm not required to share my credit card data needlessly, which for me can only a good thing.
Ultimately a phone number is a completely unnecessary piece of information for the purpose of ordering a digital download over the internet (well, in fact, for ordering about 99.999% of things over the internet!) and something I'm not prepared to give out so I guess that's me done then sadly.
Thanks for your reply and I wish your company well with what looks like a fantastic product, which I'm sure is going to do amazingly well!

Just to be clear we don't store any of those details so there is no security issue at all. The payment site is secure so it can't be viewed by anyone spying on the transaction. The card procesing company deals with it - all we get is a yes/no on whether the purchase completed.
There is nothing we can do it about it - its just the way the payment processing works. We don't have a choice. All the sytems we've ever used require a phone number.
