Need rail hubs in Denmark?

Post by Peter Stauffenberg »

If we look at the GS map we also notice that it's a bit tricky for the Axis to fill Denmark with defenders if the Allies land so far north. You can rail to Aalborg and Kiel and these units can try to occupy the coastal hexes.

One way to deal with that could be to add Denmark's second largest city Århus (2x south of Aalborg) or the small city of Esbjerg (3x north of the Wilhelmshaven port).

I'm on the other hand a bit more reluctant to do so because Denmark is less suited for an Allied landing because the Germans can easily form a block along the Kiel canal. The Luftwaffe can attack transports outside of Allied fighter and bomber range if the amphs land in Denmark. German armor units near Hamburg can kill these invaders easily unless the Luftwaffe is completely wasted.

An Allied landing near Groningen is, however, very dangerous for the Axis because it bypasses the Rhine defense line and all the clear terrain there gives easy access to a storm against Hamburg. So giving a chance to rail defenders to the gap between Hague and Wilhelmshaven is more important than having a chance to rail reinforcemements in the gap between Wilhelmshaven and Aalborg.

The Atlantic wall fortifications were strongest in France and Belgium so we definitely don't need more Atlantic wall fortresses. All we need is a way for the Axis to get units quickly to the coast line if the area is threatened.

So maybe a rail hub in Denmark is not needed, but needed in northern Holland. What do you think?

Agree - invasion of Denmark is less of a problem and pretty easy to defend against.
