The Hague report (scenario 14)

Post by nikivdd »

I just had enough prestige to bring the units up to full strength but didn't have points left to fill the new core slot.
I really enjoyed this mission, the Dutch put up a real stiff fight and they managed to finish off two of the paratroopers.
The enemy had tanks and planes attacking my tanks to stop the advance. Well they actually managed to do that roughly along the line The Hague - Gouda. The Dutch had so many infantry units... i thought i was in Russia. It took me several turns to break through and continue the drive to Leiden (who already fell back into Dutch hands). In the meantime Rotterdam was surrounded and with a minimum of casualties i took it. My Ju88 sank the enemy vessels one by one, and their interference to attack my troops along the coastline was reduced to a minimum. This type of mission along with the one you can capture enemy equipment are my favourites. I took enough time to finish the mission, grabbing a few more cities before taking the last VH. I got the DV and left with only 356 prestige points.
It is just a pity that the Fokker plane hasn't been included in the equipment file yet.
After 14 scenario's i have a great feeling about this campaign. I cannot wait to start the next one :)
My army core is now as follows:
1 Wehr Inf (***), 1 Gebirgsjäger (***), 3 Pioniere (all **), 1 SE Grenadiere (***), 3 Pz IIIF (all ***), 2 SE Pz IIIF (1 ** and 1 *), 1 SdKfz 222 (***), 2 15cm sFH18 (both ***),
1 Sturmpz I (***), 3 Bf 109E (1 ** and 2 ***), 2 Ju87B (both ***), 1 Bf 110d (***) and 1 Ju 88A (***)

The Hague - Colonel - previous DV

Victory conditions: aux spelled wrong (u instead of y)

1650 prestige left after repairs, trying to get to the paras in time might get interesting here, but will send in my Fallschirmjäger as soon as possible to get some more firepower on the ground.

My armored spearhead reached the paras south of The Hague at turn 4, but the paras north have no way of holding their positions - 1 is flown out and the 2nd one legs it south.

In the end I did not lose a single unit and finished with a DV by turn 15 (2100 prestige) - again the counterattacks looked good, actually I felt a nice feeling of urgency again, even if I made it in the end with some turns to spare - nice one.

Since the enemy air is getting stronger I think I might have to buy another Bf109 here, soon.

Another great scenario, I started off with 1041 prestige, and had enough prestige for repairs/new unit, but just barely. It is kind of an interesting situation. You have all these units, including artillery, right up next to your main objectives but you just can't quite break through and capture them. It is so close, yet so far! I managed to barely get a decisive victory, taking the last objective with two turns left and just the minimum four auxillary units left.

Played on Fieldmarshall

Another strange and beautiful scenario: My first mistake was splitting my Core Units into to two parts, and go to attack the north with one of them and the center with the other. There are so many counterattacking Infanterie Units that both parts of my army became problems. The solution was to attack the center of the map with all units, but it took some time to destroy all the Infanterie Units. So I had a DV one round before end, but I did not conquer the cities right and left of the airfield in the north.
