PC Update Pushes CTGW Bac k?

Post by A7V21 »

I must admit, PC is one hell of an amazing game, the depth, quality and Re-playability is awe inspiring. With that said, I must make a comment that I sincerely hope that this Downloadable content for PC, which is scheduled for a release date of 20 October, has not in fact once again, pushed back the date for the CTGW release!?!
If my memory serves me correctly, I think CTGW was announced in March of 2010 well before anyone had heard about anything about a PC game? No? Of course the WWII genre is alot more popular than the WWI field but, WWII has been researched and gamed ad naseum in the last decade....let's keep improving with CTGW and get that released in 2011, Please !

PzC and CTGW teams are largely independant, so they don't affect eachother much.

If that's the case then the CTGW team has alot of catching up to do, lol....(Release dates, graphics etc...) PC sets quite a high standard. Are the PC team and the CTGW team about the same size? or is the CTGW much smaller?

We will take the time we need, that is all I can say, we are constantly working on both games. For now enjoy PzC and all the new content and expansions that are coming out soon, that is our best advise.

At the moment both projects are doing fine, we hoped to be in Beta, but the AI needs more attention, like Lukas explained with PzC it was much easier as the game engine had a two year advantage and the game is much less complex. As Commander is basically one big campaign, the game and balance needs to be 99% finished,, before we even consider releasing it to Beta, while with PzC we could test the game in chunks and add layers along the way.

It is a bit technical, but with the CTGW engine and the CTGW AI, we build it up from zero and made every layer scriptable, it means we have lost a lot of time and miscalculated our time schedule by far.

But the result will be a game engine, that is so flexible, it will give us a head start for years to come and a game that is great fun. I wished we had never announced the game so early. A mistake we will not make again. But it is by far our biggest project and the engine really shines.

At the moment we are behind on the AI, and as it is so vital for this game, we will only go into Beta once we are satisfied and think the game is ready for it. It is frustrating for you guys anticipating the game, but imagine how it is for ourselves, no game is no revenue, however we just refuse to bring out an unbalanced or unstable game, just for a quick cheap buck.

I`me sure in the end you will all forgive us...

Of course, Tim.
We want a Great CTGW. And it seems The Lordz are on the right path.
Take the time you need to perfect it. I'm sure, that's what most of us want it.

Thank you Tim for the in-depth explanation. That is greatly needed and appreciated. It is indeed unfortunate for both Lordz and those of us waiting that this was announced so early; but since it was, these types of updates every few weeks I feel is a must. Everyone just wants to know how things are going – and again, we thank you for letting us know this.

As VPaulus has said – and I will second it – take what every time is needed. Your integrity in this matter is not in vain and will return with a great game that Lordz can be very proud of, consumers that are very satisfied, and profits that will be more than acceptable.

I fully understand if you can’t, but are you able to give a ballpark estimate on what percentage it is completed? Something that is give or take 20%. Again if you can’t or just would rather not, no big deal at all. Just asking.

And above all – as already said – take whatever time is needed, Lordz has many fans behind them and will wait as long as need be.

Thanks again.

We're getting very close to finishing all the gameplay mechanics and game rules. To be very specific: one of the only things remaining is submarine rules (invisible until attacking etc).

So beta is getting very close, but after all features are done we still need to play through the thing a few times to get at least a rough working balance (combat stats, income, expenses, ...) before we can start beta test. And that playtesting can always lead to changes to existing design if it turns out some things do not work desirably.

So ideally we're very close to beta, but it remains very hard to put an exact date on it.

Absolutely no need for an exact date. Your information is more than sufficient and very welcoming news indeed.
Thank you and keep up the awesome work.

I'd rather wait for a polished game with a good AI than something rushed out which has lots of issues, hope the remaining development and testing goes well
