Lillehammer report (scenario 10)

Post by nikivdd »

Here i took the opportunity to upgrade the 3 Pz(38 )t to PzIIIF. And a free core slot was available which i filled with a second 10,5cm artillery unit. I didn't regret that choice several turns later.
This is a very good scenario, well balanced and the Ai did actually what i was hoping for...resist and exploit weaknesses in my flanks.
Up onto the line Gjevik (6,11) on the left side and the norwegian town (11,9) it was going pretty smooth and fast. From there on the enemy put quite a resistance. Crossing the Lagen river was impossible at first since i was under attack from the west and north when i tried to outflank them. When i finally penetrated the outskirt of Lillehammer from the east, things were only getting a little easier. The weather was not really my ally and i had to take advantage of the clear or cloudy days to force a breakthrough somewhere. Mostly my 3 artillery units had to pave the way, hex by hex. And finally an enemy fighter appeared that was targetting my Ju87B. Fortunately my 2 fighters dealt with it swiftly. Even when i took the last VH on turn 11, i feared my unit might be thrown out but luckily my pioniere was strong enough to hold the hex during the enemy's turn. No units were lost and i finished with 1979 prestige points . I hope there will be more scenario's like this one.

This scenario looks very similar to the Lillehammer scenario in Panzer General 2, a solid base of inspiration. This scenario was a bit easier than Oslo, but still enjoyable. Prestige is still in short supply, i wasn't able to upgrade all my units to half-tracks, but I was getting close. I ended up getting a decisive victory with several turns to spare, but Lillehammer itself was tricky, only when my units coming in from the west managed to help form a pincer did I really start to make any headway.

One thing that I did notice is it seems like the airfield near Lillehammer is bugged. It wasn't replenishing the fuel of my air units parked near it. Luckily, I managed to beat the scenario before they ran out.

One other thing I liked is how much better the writing is in the briefings and debriefings. They seem to have more charm this time around. I am glad that you gave our superior a name this time.

Lillehammer - Colonel - previous DV

Yeah, just got my first armored elite unit, a PzIIIF, so this means that I will have to disband my elite Wehrmacht now since I might actually need the elite Gebirgsjäger on those northern maps.

After repairs I am left with 1540 prestige (3 Pz38 are still not upgraded), but already having 25 overstrength core units.

What seemed a little bit strange to me is that once I reached Lillehammer (at around turn 7/8) suddenly tons of British troops started spawning around Segalstad - actually I liked this one since it looks like massive British reinforcements are arriving, but is this WAD?

DV at turn 10/18 with 2300 prestige left - again no real challenge here and lots of turns to spare. I liked the spawning of the British hordes around Segalstad, but that is pretty much all. Maybe higher chances for worse weather might work, I think I only got 1 turn when I was not able to use the Luftwaffe. I "only" used 5 artillery units this time, but I feel together with my 2 Stukas and to a less extend my 2 He111s this makes the scenario too easy (others as well, but I think this was the scenario where I felt it the most).
