:D Well, I've just purchased FoG and IF last night for my iMac and I must say the game is very entertaining. This is what I wished Warhammer 40k Dawn of War would've been. Though DoW was still fun and it was pretty, it wasn't even close to the TT experience which was so disappointing. If I'm still playing FoG when it comes out I'll certainly purchase WotS. I'll likely also pick up SoA and LT. The rest of the army packs however seem less likely unless it turns out I just can't get enough of this stuff. :) The game seems a bit pricey to me, but the price is not so high as to stop me from supporting the "little guy." It will likely keep me from picking up every pack, but that's only because the economy still sucks around here. If the DAG system were to allow open army selection rather than limiting selections to a single army pack, I'd be much more interested in picking up more of the packs. Regardless, this game rocks! Thank you for making it. 8)

Army Packs

Post by CharlesRobinson »

It does have the option to pick any army and play against any army. I am in a Super League now that is competing in that very environment.

:D Sweet! How do you enable that option? I don't see it. When I go to DAG I must pick an army pack and the armies listed all come from that pack. Admittedly I only have the one expansion, but the base game does have 2 DAG armies (Roman and Carthaginian) and is a pickable army pack. It should at least prove the concept.

Ooh, the match ups! How do you do it? Please tell me. :D

Never mind! I'm an idiot! I think I've found it. I can pick it at the AI army pack option in setting up the game. Oh wow! :D This could get expensive! :D Thanks for the heads up!

I love the the game.

Yes the computer AI is very bad, but it is just an AI after all and it is the multiplayer that keeps me coming back for more anyway.

Only two out of the last five books are large, and you can break them down into two parters because of the size. Nobody will even bat an eye over that and will purchase the expansions.

We also expect to see FOG-R and FOG-N as well. So please take the Osprey titles seriously.

If you split the two big books up into two and do the complete expansion list then that will give the game 15 expansions.

Completing these expansions will reflect directly onto Slitherine's reputation.

This is especially true since your company in online and therefore a global business.

Dump the Asian and Native American Armies and it will impact your global standing as a company and is very bad PR.

Thank You
+1 to what CharlesRobinson said. I, too, started buying the expansions on the assumption that all FoG TT armies would get covered eventually.
I wouldn't mind if the larger ones (Oath of Fealty and Empires of the Dragon) got split up, as long as all armies would get covered as has been the case until now.

Also consider this: if people have reason to assume that their 'collection' isn't going to be complete anyway, some 'completists' (like me) might decide not to buy the next few expansions anymore...

The problem is the cost of creating some of the army packs is prohibitive unless sales jump to a whole new level. The amount of time to paint photograph and process the images is huge and costly.

We'd love to get everything done but the reality is that may not be possible. HexWar are not going to push themselves in to bankruptcy just to complete the set of armies.

Maybe a pre-order might work , if you get enough orders to make it fiscally possible
we pay the money and Hexwar make the army pack.

just an idea

Photography and graphics

Post by todd645 »

I'm pretty mean with photoshop. I'd be happy to be put on the "volunteers" list that you were making (that was for programmers). There are also some pretty big US gaming conventions near me. I could probably get people to allow me to photograph their miniatures for a project like this. And it would be pretty cool to be involved in the game that I enjoy so much.

As far as the game price goes... it is pricey until you consider the countless hours of entertainment it provides. I've put more time (for better or worse) into this game than every game I've ever played combined!

Well, let's hope that our group gets off the ground soon then. I want to see 15thC foot knights in plate armour and retinue billmen in their colours (without a shield at all!!) for my Wars of the Roses scenarios - and I reckon late medieval artillery could be better represented too. And I shall lobbying furiously for early 16thC arquebusiers to be included in the game so scenarios like Pavia 1525 are more historically accurate. Put them in your notebook, Todd, and we'll see what transpires.

Painting time and photograph time - really? With all the miniature players out there (this game did start as a miniature game). Miniature producers (who would probably love to have their miniatures within the game for a little plug - you don't actually use that many miniatures compared to a person that builds 1,000pt armies), you can cut costs by buying plastic 20mm miniatures that are very high quality (such as Zvezda & Ceaser), add there are tons of Photoshop geeks within the ranks I am sure. Time to expand your possibilities - think outside the box.

In addition, I like the Advanced Order idea floated (You just don't charge the credit card until the expansion is released.).

If you cannot deliver here, then I cannot expect you to deliver on any future games neither. :(

Question: If you stop producing expansions - then what happens to the multiplayer support? Does multiplayer stop at some point?

You will be playing digital FOG Ren and FOG AM II at that point so it wont matter:)

FOG AM

Post by CharlesRobinson »

What is FOG AM?

I don't think they are going to do FOG R.

It is an important questions since the AI is not that good.

I still have old 40K games because the AI is great and I still have fun playing agains the computer.

That goes a long way in making a game worth the investment.

I only have three computer game series - 40K, Call of Duty, and FOG.

I am very picky.

I think they are , i saw it in a review once on the wargamer site .
They would make a killing i think if they did.
After 2 years of playing FoG , i am still playing 5 to 10 games a week
and love it and i think most people who have FoG will buy FoG R.

Well I hope they dont but if that happens I hope they find a way to at least make some change on the multiplayer system and allows us to send the turns by email like some other games do.....

To be honest, FoG digital is pretty expensive since its not released on the local market (at least for people from east Europe like me). So a lot of people like me are very picky about what expansions to buy. I have not bought any of the "medieval" expansions, but I would buy Renaissance - in particular "wars of religion" and "clash of empires". I honestly think they would make more money on renaissance than on stuff like "wolves from the sea" or even "Swifter than eagles".

FOG R

Post by CharlesRobinson »

I would love to see FOG R as well. It only has six army books so they should be able to provide these as expansions with little problem. What kind of marketing is the company doing? I have never seen the game listed on Ospreys newsletters.

Swifter than Eagles...Task that would complete the historical panorama of the ancient world.
And then it is my preferred period… :D

Army Lists

Post by CharlesRobinson »

I want them all, but yes - it is hard to imagine a game on ancient warfare without the "Swifter Than Eagles" expansion. :D

In addition - many of the miniatures that they would need for these armies are already produced in high quality in 20mm plastic.

See the below link for examples:

http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Per ... x?period=2

You would not be able to create all the armies of the book from plastic - suplementing what you can would reduce the cost.

Multiplayer support will not be stopped. We're looking for ways to do expansions but we havent finalised a plan yet.
